Lighting Futures with Skills: How SGSU Redefines Learning Through Diwali Skill Wali

Each year, Diwali brings light, color, and joy across India; a celebration that symbolizes the victory of knowledge over ignorance, and of light over darkness. It is a time that reminds us of renewal, reflection, and the power of learning. At Scope Global Skills University (SGSU), Bhopal, this timeless message finds a new expression. Through its annual initiative, “Diwali Skill Wali,” held on 14–15 October 2025, SGSU turns the spirit of Diwali into a celebration of knowledge, creativity, and skill-based empowerment.

This year’s celebration carried special significance as it also aligned with India’s growing focus on future-ready education and digital skilling. The two-day event combined festive joy with innovation, bringing together students, faculty, and dignitaries in a vibrant showcase of creativity and enterprise.

Lighting Futures with Skills How SGSU Redefines Learning Through Diwali Skill Wali

From celebration to application

Unlike conventional fairs or exhibitions, Diwali Skill Wali is a two-day experiential learning festival that transforms the SGSU campus into a space buzzing with ideas, collaboration, and enterprise. Every corner of the event reflects the university’s belief that learning happens best when students are engaged, curious, and hands-on.

Students took complete ownership of planning and execution; from conceptualizing stall ideas to marketing their products and interacting with visitors. The result is a dynamic learning experience where academic knowledge merges seamlessly with creativity and problem-solving.

This focus on hands-on learning allows participants to see how innovation and employability go hand in hand as a key aspect of SGSU’s approach to higher education.

Skills in action: Competitions and creative exhibits

As part of the celebration, SGSU hosted a series of skill-based contests under the theme “Celebrate Diwali by Promoting Swadeshi Products.” Each contest encouraged students to express creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation while promoting local talent and entrepreneurship.

Competitions included:
  • Rangoli contest: Celebrating artistry through traditional and modern patterns.
  • Diya decoration contest: Combining creativity and cultural symbolism with design skills.
  • Origami (Quilling and Paper Craft) contest: Turning simple materials into festive art.
  • Poster making and painting contest: Reflecting the themes of Diwali, joy, and positivity.
  • Diwali cards contest: Designing handmade cards that spread happiness and festive cheer.
  • Mehendi contest: Expressing traditional elegance through intricate designs.
  • Photography contest: Capturing the spirit of light, celebration, and community.
  • Reel influencer contest: Creating engaging digital stories around “Diwali and Skills.”

These competitions became platforms for applied learning; helping students plan, execute, and present ideas that connected creativity with real-world purpose.

Alongside the contests, students also organized skill stalls and creative exhibits that showcased handcrafted décor, fashion accessories, and art products; small examples of how learning can evolve into entrepreneurship. Each exhibit represented imagination in action and highlighted SGSU’s strong focus on practical, outcome-based education.

Inauguration ceremony: AI Literacy Mission and Kaushal Rath

The event was inaugurated by Honourable Shri Rameshwar Sharma, Member of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, as the Chief Guest. He was joined by Dr. Siddharth Chaturvedi, Chancellor, SGSU; Dr. Vijay Singh, Vice Chancellor; Dr. Sitesh Kumar Sinha, Registrar; Mr. Vineet Verma, State Director, KVIC; and Mr. Rajeev Khanna, Assistant Director, KVIC.

A key highlight of the inaugural ceremony was the unveiling of the AI Literacy Mission and Kaushal Rath posters, aligning with the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s declaration of 2025 as the Year of AI. The initiative marks SGSU’s ongoing pledge, made earlier this year, to dedicate 2025 to promoting AI literacy and awareness.

Developed by the AISECT Project Team, the Kaushal Rath is a specially designed mobile training bus equipped with advanced technologies in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Future Skills. Its mission is to empower rural youth through hands-on digital training and bring skill development directly to communities that need it most.

Celebration as a classroom

By turning celebration into a classroom, SGSU illustrated how learning extends beyond lectures and labs. Students learned to collaborate, express, and adapt; attributes essential in today’s rapidly changing professional world. The event stood as a reminder that education, when designed with creativity and purpose, nurtures both confidence and competence.

The second day continued the momentum with open mic sessions under Yuvaaz: Youth Ki Awaaz, performances by freshers, and a valedictory ceremony recognizing winners across various contests. The evening concluded with a live band performance, adding a vibrant finale to the two-day festival.

Lighting the way forward

The core message of “Diwali Skill Wali” is both simple and powerful: skills are the true light that illuminate the path to success. The event underscores how skill-based education goes beyond employability to build self-reliant individuals capable of innovation and leadership.

This year’s focus on AI literacy and Swadeshi innovation further highlighted how traditional values and modern technologies can come together to drive India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

As the SGSU campus glows each year with diyas, it stands for more than celebration; it represents the light of empowerment that comes from learning through doing. Diwali Skill Wali continues to embody SGSU’s mission to nurture thinkers, creators, and changemakers for a brighter, skill-driven future.
