Telangana Unveils 65 Advanced Technology Centres to Empower Youth with Skills

In a landmark move to strengthen skill development, 65 Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs) were inaugurated across Telangana. The Honorable Chief Minister Shri A. Revanth Reddy inaugurated the centres from the Mallepalli ATC in Hyderabad.

When the Government of Telangana announced in 2024 a massive ₹2,000 crore plan to revamp ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes), it signaled a strong vision; one where skill training would no longer remain confined to traditional courses but evolve into industry-recognized pathways leading to degrees. The Honorable Chief Minister had emphasized the importance of bridging the skill gap through industry–government collaboration, with a focus on extending opportunities to rural youth.

The inauguration of these 65 ATCs marks the realization of that vision, transforming traditional ITIs into modern training hubs. With upgraded infrastructure, advanced technology, and new-age courses, ATCs now serve as the backbone of Telangana’s skill development ecosystem, preparing youth for national and global opportunities.

Telangana Unveils 65 Advanced Technology Centres to Empower Youth with Skills

Commitment to students: Scholarships, apprenticeships, and overseas jobs

Chief Minister Shri A. Revanth Reddy announced a ₹2,000 monthly scholarship for every ATC student from the next academic year. To make this possible, the Honorable Chief Minister directed IT and Industries Minister Shri Duddilla Sridhar Babu to work with Finance Minister Shri Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and allocate special funds.

In addition, he instructed Transport Minister Shri Ponnam Prabhakar to provide apprenticeship opportunities for ATC students in TGSRTC, linking training directly with employment pathways.

The government will also establish a separate department to support students with foreign job opportunities, skill training, and essential services like passports. Highlighting global prospects, Japan is ready to teach the Japanese language and provide employment opportunities to the youth of Telangana.

A call to youth: Skills, discipline, and determination

The government envisions ATCs as more than training centres; they are platforms to shape the future of Telangana’s youth. By combining education, intelligence, and practical skills, students are encouraged to build strong careers and contribute to the state’s growth.

The larger vision is to:

  • Promote discipline and determination among students
  • Ensure education leads to meaningful opportunities in India and abroad
  • Inspire youth to play an active role in the reconstruction of Telangana
  • Position the state to achieve its target of becoming a $3 trillion economy by 2047

This reflects a commitment to creating not only skilled professionals but also responsible citizens ready to compete globally.

Why Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs) matter

While ITIs have existed since 1956, they became outdated and were neglected in the past. The current government has upgraded ITIs into Advanced Technology Centres. These centres now have modern workshops, advanced tools, and globally relevant courses in robotics, EVs, IoT, automation, and more.

This transformation came through a public–private partnership with Tata Technologies. The project brought in an investment of around ₹2,400 crore — ₹300 crore from the government and ₹2,100 crore from Tata.

So far, more than 11,000 students have enrolled in long-term programs, with 99% of seats filled. From the next academic year, another 1.25 lakh short-term training seats will also be available.

Expanding the ATC network

The government has sanctioned 51 more ATCs. These will be completed within the year, taking the total to 116 centres across the state.

Alongside ATCs, the state is also strengthening initiatives like Young India Skills University to further enhance skill development.

A skilled future for Telangana

Telangana produces over 1.1 lakh engineering graduates every year. Yet, many of them face challenges in securing jobs because they lack practical skills. ATCs are designed to bridge this gap by offering hands-on, technology-driven training aligned with both domestic and global industry requirements.

By investing in ATCs, and global partnerships, the government is not only addressing today’s skill gaps but also laying the foundation for tomorrow’s workforce. These initiatives aim to create a generation of youth who are confident, competitive, and capable of driving Telangana’s growth story at home and on the global stage.
