In the first six days, more than 800,000 students and faculty members from over 7,000 institutes actively participated in 14,000+ events during the Jan Bhagidari events. Launched by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), these initiatives are a crucial build-up to the upcoming fourth G20 Education Working Group Meet in Pune from June 19th to 22nd. They aim to ignite interest, increase awareness, and promote active involvement among diverse groups, including women and youth.

In line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of making “Jan Bhagidari” a widespread movement during India’s G20 Presidency, these events are being executed by a diverse network of institutions. This includes 3,000+ Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), 11,000+ private ITIs, 200+ Jan Shikshan Sansthans (JSS), 500+ Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKKs), 1,000+ industry associations, and 100+ Sector Skill Councils across 35 states and union territories. ITIs recorded the highest participation with over 400,000 students and faculty members, followed by JSS with 100,000+ and PMKKs with 56,000+, respectively. Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh witnessed the highest student and staff involvement, with 250,000+ and 100,000+, respectively, followed by Chhattisgarh (57,000+), Rajasthan (46,000+), Maharashtra (42,000+), and Madhya Pradesh (39,000+).

Over 8,00,000 Students and Faculty Unite for G20 Education Meet in Jan Bhagidari Events

The Jan Bhagidari events featured diverse activities to boost public engagement, including

  • 3,000 tree plantation drives
  • 1,400 Swacchata Campaigns
  • 800 entrepreneurship quiz competitions
  • 750 rangoli competitions
  • 7,800 debate competitions

These events included important tasks like capacity building sessions, venue mapping, and developing a dedicated web portal.

In observance of World Environment Day on June 5th, various institutions, including National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) Hyderabad, ITIs in Chhattisgarh, and the Security and Social Welfare Association Bhopal, organized tree plantation drives. An impressive participation of 173,486 students and staff members took part in these initiatives. Additionally, over 15,000 students and faculty members participated in over 300 cyclothons organized by these institutions. There are plans for wall painting and essay competitions, skill hackathons, skill showcase competitions, skill Olympiads, and yoga competitions; all centred around the summit’s overarching theme of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam or ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’.

Lauding the Jan Bhagidari events, Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, said, “The Jan Bhagidari events emphasize the crucial role of people’s participation in nation-building, particularly the youth, reinforcing our belief in their power. Active citizen engagement shapes our diverse and democratic country’s trajectory, ensuring government actions align with people’s needs. Initiatives like the Jan Bhagidari events foster a sense of ownership and collective responsibility, nurturing a shared commitment to shaping the outcomes of the G20. I firmly believe in the transformative potential of such initiatives in influencing the G20’s trajectory.”

The Jan Bhagidari events feature webinars, training sessions, career counseling, expert lectures, and workshops to promote new-age courses, digital skills, lifelong learning, and apprenticeships in the green economy.

The primary goal of the Jan Bhagidari events is to strengthen global cooperation and support in establishing a solid foundation for foundational literacy and numeracy, the central theme of the fourth G20 Education Working Group meeting. These discussions will focus on propelling progress in these crucial areas. The National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020 also underscores the urgent national mission of achieving foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) for all children.
