Skill development news from the government

  • The Indian Geospatial Economy is anticipated to reach Rs 63,100 crore by 2025 at a growth rate of 12.8%, according to Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the UN World Geospatial Information Congress (UNWGIC) on October 11 in Hyderabad, where India will highlight the progress, it has made in the sector in recent years.
  • In Gujarat, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated that Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities can soon become the centres of innovations and enterprises and that focus should be given to advancing digitalization and skilling activities in these areas.
  • The government has authorized spending Rs 26,000 crore to install 25,000 new telecom towers over the next 500 days, according to Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
  • In a first-of-its-kind government-university-industry partnership, Deakin University in Australia and the Ministries of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship of the Government of India will provide scholarships, fellowships, skilling, and training programs.
  • On October 10, 2022, Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Melas (PMNAM) were organized in 280 locations across 28 states and Union Territories by (MSDE).
  • On October 7, 2022, at the “Meet at Agra-Leather, Footwear Components & Technology Fair,” Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry said, ‘’In the near future, India’s footwear industry can produce and export ten times more goods than it currently does’’.

Skill development news from the industry

  • NEISSR launched a “skill me” program to emphasize the importance of social workers improving their communication skills as they interacted with individuals and their problems.
  • The State Bank of India announced the adoption of 30 remote villages across India as part of the fourth phase of the ‘SBI Gram Seva’ program.
  • Given the various industries where 5G is being used, a skilled workforce and their empowerment in the sector can act as an efficient and effective mediator for all other sectors.
  • Drones powered by artificial intelligence are being developed by researchers at the Centre for Aerospace Research (CASR) of Anna University to aid in maritime rescue operations, particularly in situations of drowning.
  • The Indian Navy will soon induct country’s first human-carrying drone, “Varuna,” manufactured by the Pune-based Indian firm Sagar Defence Engineering Private Limited.
  • The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted Asteria Aerospace Limited India’s first micro category drone type certification for its indigenously designed A200 drone.
  • Three drone manufacturers, including Reliance-backed Asteria Aerospace and Adani-backed General Aeronautics, have received ‘Type certification’ from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. Dhaksha Unmanned Systems, a Chennai-based firm, is the third drone manufacturer.
  • With their upskilling program, Podar Eduspace and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) hope to empower youths in India.
  • By November, the government intends to begin disbursing funds under its production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for drones and drone components.
  • In collaboration with Garuda Aerospace, the Indian Drone Association (IDA) organized the first-ever Global Drone Expo 2022 in Chennai.
  • By establishing 10 drone hubs, Drone Destination, in collaboration with the NSDC, intends to promote and teach the skills required for youths to become qualified drone operators. The partnership aims to extend its flying schools across the nation.
  • Mahendra Singh Dhoni, an Indian cricketer, unveiled the “Droni,” a “made-in-India camera drone” with advanced technology made by Garuda Aerospace.
  • According to Cornerstone’s 2022 Global Skills Report, while skilling is India HR’s top priority, only 55% of employees say they are confident in their organization’s possibilities for skill development.

Skill development news from ITI’s

  • The Yogi Adityanath government will soon open a box of employment opportunities for students attending Uttar Pradesh’s Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).
  • With the implementation of the new ITI Promotion and Placement Policy 2022, the U.P. government is preparing to transform the state’s existing ITIs by launching new age, innovative, and job-oriented courses.

Skill development news from academia

  • In the democratic and decentralized process outlined in the National Education Policy, states will have the option to choose the language of instruction.
  • According to a new University Grants Commission (UGC) regulation, students pursuing PhD programs are not permitted to pursue two academic degrees simultaneously.
  • Higher education institutions are required by UGC to allocate 25% of their extra seats to international students. For both UG and PG programs in the respective universities, these seats must be created.
  • Finland will collaborate with Kerala in the areas of general education, higher education, pre-primary education and care, technical education, and exchange training programs.
  • The University Grants Commission (UGC) has developed courses on cyber security and data protection for undergraduates and postgraduates, with the goal of assisting students from non-technical backgrounds in developing an understanding of cyber security issues.
  • In order to further the National Education Policy’s goal of internationalising higher education in India, Ahmedabad University signed an MoU with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

Skill development news from the States/UTs

  • Assam: The Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati, signed an MOU with the Beauty and Wellness Sector Skill Council (B&WSSC) on the IIE campus with the goal of enhancing the entrepreneurial ecosystem for developing and imparting skills in the beauty and wellness industry in the North Eastern Region and to develop the “Centre of Excellence.”
  • Himachal Pradesh: Inmates of Bal Ashrams spread throughout the state would be able to sustain themselves after the Department of Women and Child Development signed an MOU with Skill Development Corporation to develop children’s skills.
  • Jammu and Kashmir: The Jammu and Kashmir Public University Bill-2022 will go into action, as agreed by the Administrative Council, which is chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
  • Karnataka: The Hubballi-Dharwad-Belagavi (HDB) cluster’s blueprint for the Beyond Bangalore program, which will also contain India’s first “EV industrial zone,” was unveiled by the Government of Karnataka.
  • Nagaland: The District Agriculture Office, located at LRC colony (Notun Bosti), Dimapur, will organize a mega job fair on October 28 in collaboration with Emporium Training & Consultancy Pvt Ltd.
  • Telangana: The Skill Development Center (SDC) being built at the Telangana Industrialists Federation MSME Green Industrial Park at Dandumalkapur, according to Industries Minister KT Rama Rao.
