Schaeffler India collaborates with TISS to provide skill training to graduating students in Gujarat: Schaeffler India has partnered with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) to implement a National University Students’ Skill Development (NUSSD) programme, for providing skill training to 350 graduating students from three colleges in Vadodara in Gujarat. DST to impart skills to the woman workforce: DST) is planning to expand its women technology parks (WTP) scheme to backward states. The scheme is based on imparting skills suited to earning a better livelihood and providing access to complementary technologies to the migrant women workers who have lost their jobs in recent months.

Skilled workers trained under PMKVY get higher wages: According to a study by NSDC on PMKVY the skilled workers who are trained under PMKVY get higher wages. The ministry has been undertaking regular monitoring and evaluation of the various initiatives for necessary corrective measures, if any.

ESSCI to train 800 EMS technicians: ESSCI is going to train 800 EMS technicians in collaboration with VVDN. For this, a new training centre has been launched at IMT Sector-8, Manesar in Gurugram.

Skill development news from the states

Andra Pradesh

UGC approved nine skill development courses at ANU: UGC has approved nine skill development courses at Adikavi Nannaya University (ANU) for the 2020-21 academic year. The university has already applied for NSQF to start the nine courses for PhD, PG diploma and certificate programmes.

APSSDC signs three MoUS to introduce skill development courses in the state: APSSDC has signed three MoUs with three companies Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF), NSE Academy and National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) to introduce skill development courses across the state.

News Bytes from NSNSri City to take up skill development in a big way: Sri City, the integrated business city in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, is planning to take up skill development in a big way. As part of these efforts, Sri City, APSSDC and Alstom are jointly organising a skill development programme for diploma holders in mechanical engineering.

Arunachal Pradesh

Skill development training institutes to reopen: The skill development training institutes are going to be reopened in Arunachal Pradesh. These include five industrial training institutes (ITI), 26 Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) training centres, and five Chief Minister’s Yuva Kaushal Yojana (CMYKY) training centres.

Haryana

Government PG college to launch six new vocational courses: The Higher Education Department of the Haryana Government is going to introduce six new vocational courses in the government post graduate college from the academic year 2020-21. UGC has sanctioned new courses to the college as part of the National Skills Qualifications Framework Scheme.

Himachal Pradesh

ITIs in Himachal Pradesh to reopen from 1st October: The ITIs in Himachal Pradesh are going to reopen from 1st October by strictly following the guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). 

Kerala

Five new ITIs to be set up in Kerala: In Kerala, the state government is going to upgrade the ITIs to international standard and five new ITIs are going to be established in the state. Three trades will be started in the newly constructed ITIs and training will be provided to 240 students. 

Manipur

Workshop on Grameen Kaushalya Yojana skilling projects: The Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission , Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Government of Manipur has conducted a One Day Workshop Grameen Kaushalya Yojana, skilling projects for rural unemployed youths of Manipur at PN Regional Institute of Skill Development at Lamlong, Imphal East. Various strategies on mobilization, re-employment and monitoring of DDU-GKY Skill program were discussed in the workshop.

Tamil Nadu

Apex Skill Development Centre at Ariyalur: Ramco Cements has signed a MoU with the Government of Tamil Nadu for establishment of an Apex Skill Development Centre at Ariyalur and to provide skill development training to rural youth. 

Uttar Pradesh

U-Rise portal launched to help students in academics: A portal ‘Unified Re-imagined Innovation for Student Empowerment’ or ‘U-Rise’ was launched by the government of Uttar Pradesh. This portal will contain a database of around 20lakh engineering and vocational courses students to help them with study materials and employment.
