Raymond, a brand synonymous with men’s fashion, celebrated World Tailor’s Day on 28th February by recognizing tailoring talent in India. In an event held in Mumbai, the tailor masters were felicitated for their exquisite craft and encouraged to upgrade their skills to be in tune with rapidly changing fashion technology. The event was graced by people from the industry, academia and government and it was heartening to see the presence of many young women who were keen on becoming Master Stylists.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Sanjay Behl, CEO, Raymond paid the best tribute to the craft when he said, “real soul of the complete man is the tailor and Raymond is committed to restore economic and social dignity of the tailoring fraternity.”

Sudhanshu Pokhriyal, President, Textiles – Raymond, reiterated the importance of developing a sustainable tailoring ecosystem by closely connecting with the tailors and elevating their role to Master Stylists. He spoke about the need to understand today’s customers who are keen on consistent quality, timely delivery keeping in mind their comfort and convenience. He also shared the story of how Raymond’s Tailoring Hubs are transforming the lives of tailors across India.

The highlight of the day was the fashion show displaying the creations of the tailor masters who participated in the Kaun Banega Master Stylist (KBMS) competitions. Out of 1000 entries, the shortlisted masters, who were present at the event, were eager to know the results of the competition and the sense of pride in their creations was easily palpable as they walked the ramp along with the models. Moen Ansari from Jamshedpur walked away with the first prize and Ram Narayan Bhairava from Jaipur was the runner up in the competitions. Both of them will represent India in the upcoming international competitions in Italy.

What KBMS women participants say about their dreams in Fashion Design

Kaun Banega Master Stylist Raymond women participantsKanchi Jain, Nirmala Niketan Polytechnic, Mumbai

Kanchi_Raymods fashion design“Inspiration behind the garment was the Royal Alpha. I designed the kurta by taking a cue from how the kings used to dress up and blended it with a print of the king of the jungle making a roaring entry. I was always interested in something creative and passionate about art, so I took up fashion designing. I was completely supported by my parents to pursue my interest. There is a bright future for this profession since many young people are fashion conscious. Motivation and self-confidence are the two key elements that can take you through.”

Sumitra Rajpurohit, Pearl Academy, Jaipur

Sumitra_Raymonds fashion designMy design is inspired by Gothic culture and I have used asymmetry, long jacket style using the concept of balanced distortion. I am currently pursing a 4 year course in Fashion Design and I am passionate about stitching. Many designers don’t give importance to stitching, but I feel it is the core of design and I stitched the garment for the competition all by myself, even though I could have got it done by the tailor. It was a great experience to participate in the competition, it doesn’t matter whether I win or not!

Preeti Mishra, Raymond Tailoring Centre, Lucknow

preeti_raymods-e1551866354309I got to know about this competition from RTC Lucknow and participated in it. I have my own small boutique and have always been interested in fashion designing. The only challenge is there were not any good colleges which provided design courses in Lucknow and not everyone can come to Delhi and Mumbai as it becomes expensive to study and pursue a career. I hope to make some good contacts through this event and interaction with them will help in growing my business. My family has been very supportive throughout.
