On the occasion of Social Media Day 2018, here’s a note to express our gratitude for connecting with us on various channels.

When we launched our online platform, “National Skills Network – NSN”, two years ago, we were excited as well as apprehensive. We were excited because all of us knew deep down that social media has great potential to take us where we wanted to go. Our vision was strategically aligned with social media channels, latest and emerging digital technologies, believing in its empowering potential to communicate through compelling content.

At the same time, we were apprehensive, mainly because of the newness of content in the domain of skill development and vocational training in India. Today, we are here to tell you how our apprehensions gradually turned into hope and how we began building a community of people (non-intrusively) through social media channels who saw value in our work. This visibility was crucial in building confidence and keep going!

Few months later, with more traction, we were popularly known as “NSN”, thanks to your acknowledgement of our regular updates on social media, particularly, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. And of course, all the connections we made with people who were at the helm, to publish their interview in the form of “Skill Stories” and “Skill Talks”.

The challenge of creating content from scratch in the form or interviews, articles and resources was definitely aided by our conversations on various social media channels, through validating our ideas, working out implementation plans and redesigning our content strategy.

We wish to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your continuous support, encouragement and advice on our efforts to share the positive impact of skills – making ‘skill’ our supreme purpose to research, learn, listen, write, read, talk, travel, etc – everything that we’ve been doing is somewhere connected to the need to recognise the value of a skill irrespective of who we are and what we do.

Social Media Day 2018

We owe a great deal of our online presence to LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp:

1. LinkedIn:  LinkedIn helped us connect with thousands of professionals who in the domain of Education, Employment, Employability and Entrepreneurship. The amazing power of LinkedIn messaging has opened an entire world of professionals with whom we can communicate in real time in all geographies. We are grateful for your ‘likes’, ‘shares’ and ‘comments’ on our posts.

2. Facebook: We still remember the first time our Facebook post went viral, getting us thousands of views, when it was shared on Skill India and NSDC Facebook pages. Our joy knew no bounds as many friends ’liked’ our page and it gave us huge impetus to grow our network organically. When NSDC, other organizations and individuals share our biweekly newsletter it helps us reach many in the skill space.

3. Twitter: We needed support from leaders and change makers in skill space, Twitter was the best medium of this purpose. Occasionally when we sent DM to bureaucrats and CEOs in skills space, we were thrilled to see their prompt response and it strengthened our faith in social media.

4. Though WhatsApp is not a social media channel as such, we have productively leveraged the social messaging potential of this powerful app to interact with our network in real time. Thanks to WhatsApp, communication is not just instant, it is also impactful as it is cost-effective and collaborative.

On the occasion of Social Media Day 2018, we wish to thank each one of you for sharing our journey – for helping us learn, think, understand, discuss, debate, reflect and enrich our knowledge and skills with your updates on various social media channels. The pictures and posts you share help us remain connected at the ground level,  as we spend considerable amount of time, observing and analysing the trends in skill development, vocational training from various stakeholders. We hope to get continued support from all of you to expand our network and strengthen our purpose as we are working dedicatedly to reach new milestones for meaningful engagement and interaction.

Cheers ! Team NSN
