Andhra Pradesh

  1. The Industrial Department in association with the QIS College of Engineering and Technology started four skill development programmes for around 300 Electronics and Communications Engineering students from various colleges.
  2. A one-day skill development programme was conducted at JNTUA College of Engineering in Anantapur. The Principal explained the students the concepts of internet of things, data science learning machine and robotics

Arunachal Pradesh

  1. The state’s department of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship aims to impart employable skills to 86,000 youths under various schemes, especially the PMKVY.
  2. SD&E Parliamentary Secretary said the department will conduct vocational training programmes “on a war footing” throughout the state to train unemployed youths to turn them into an organised workforce.

Assam has received investment commitments worth Rs 1 lakh crore through over 200 business pacts signed at its first Global Investment Summit (GIS) in Guwahati. As many as 25 MoUs, entailing Rs 35,000 crore investments, were signed on the final day of the summit.

Chhattisgarh

  1. Adani Foundation inaugurated a special CBSE school Adani Vidya Mandir and a Vocational Training Center in Surguja district catering to the welfare of the children and youth of the tribal communities.
  2. Dantewada has opened, ‘Yuva’, a BPO with world-class infrastructure and amenities, for providing technical and soft-skills training to over to the youth.

Delhi

  1. The government is setting up a model aspirational skill centre in every district of the country under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra Programme, according to the Finance Minister
  2. The government proposes to expand airport capacity by more than five times to handle a billion passengers a year, and the balance sheet of Airport Authority of India will be leveraged to raise more resources for funding expansion works.
  3. The US-based Altair Engineering has announced a collaborative effort with its partner in India, DesignTech Systems to support the advancement of the Skill India programme.
  4. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship claims that 65% of India’s population is in the working-age group. The NCPCR, though, has found that adolescent girls are not included in this. The report states that 40% of adolescent girls are not attending schools.
  5. Top global executives have emphasised that India should invest in its talented pool of engineers to achieve “smart” manufacturing goals.
  6. 9,000 youth have been trained under the Northeast Rural Livelihood Project (NERLP) introduced by the Ministry for the Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER).
  7. Employability of Indian graduates is rising, as per a new survey, questioning conventional wisdom that many of them are not trained to start work. Among fresh engineers, employability is even higher.
  8. The government approved signing of an agreement between India and the UK on cooperation in the field of skill development, vocational education and training.
  9. One of the announcements in the Union Budget 2018 was regarding the establishment of a national programme to direct efforts in the area of Artificial Intelligence.
  10. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has introduced new affiliation/ accreditation norms for over 13,000 ITIs by emphasising on its qualitative aspect.
  11. General Electric, will set up a centre of excellence for skill development in the Sri Ramakrishna Hospital to impart training to diploma holders and Plus two pass students.
  12. Dharmendra Pradhan said BSF should join hands with Skill Development Ministry to impart training of new skills like technology to its personnel and their family members.
  13. The Centre has released nearly Rs 9,940 crore to the states for the Smart Cities Mission.
  14. UNI minister Suresh Prabhu said the proposed scheme of the Export Promotion Council for EOUs & SEZs for skill development of its 18 lakh employees will strengthen the knowledge base of SEZ and EOU workforce and enhance their overall competitiveness.
  15. Eduvanz Financing – a skill development loan provider, announced that it has been granted the non-banking financial company licence by the RBI to provide loans in the multi-billion skill development sector.
  16. As part of the welfare initiatives for the families of the Delhi police personnel, two skill development centres were launched to train candidates in the fields of Cutting & Tailoring and Beauty-therapy and other skill-oriented jobs.
  17. Union Environment Minister said that in the next three years, the ministry plans to support the skill development of over five lakh youths in sectors related to environment.
  18. The Ministry of Railways has been providing training to Apprentices in various disciplines like Fitter, Turner, Machinist, Welder, Painter, Carpenter, Electrician, Refrigerator and AC Mechanic, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle/Diesel). It has a target of training of 30 thousand Apprentices in its 16 Zonal Units and 7 Production Units.

Haryana

The Government will organise a day-long workshop on Apprenticeship at Gurugram to disseminate knowledge on the topic and felicitate establishments significantly appointing apprentices.

Gujarat

  1. Thousands of sanitation workers from the state will soon undergo a major training programme for enabling them to tackle the urban waste in a professional manner.
  2. The government is planning unemployment allowance for the jobless and skill training for youths under which Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000 per month allowance will be given to every beneficiary.

Jharkhand

  1. The Graduate School College for Women in Jamshedpur became the first among the 16 constituent colleges of Kolhan University to introduce EXCEL, a programme to enable students get connected with the job market.
  2. Tata Steel Skill Development Society and NGO Enable India organised a seven-week skill training on digital literacy for visually impaired persons at Sabal, a capacity building centre for people with disabilities.

Karnataka

  1. The government is planning to expand the Biotechnology Finishing School programme to include 18 more institutions.
  2. What Nasscom does for startups, IITians plan to do for NGOs by becoming a facilitator that pools resources, funds, connections, business skills and technology.
  3. The Institute Of Directors organised it’s 12th International Conference on corporate social responsibility at Hotel Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru.

Kerala

The government plans to set up new skill development centres with international aid to help young job aspirants acquire specific professional skills required by potential employers, Minister for Excise and Labour said.

Maharashtra

  1. The Union Budget included announcements for the education sector focused on improving infrastructure and quality, teachers’ training, moving to digital boards from blackboards and launching of the Revitalising of Infrastructure and Systems of Education (RISE).
  2. Around 22,000 students of about 100 government-run Industrial Training Institutes in Maharashtra will take their semester examinations online, instead of traditional pen-and-paper tests.
  3. Germany is beginning to appear on the radars of healthcare professionals in India looking to find jobs abroad.
  4. Tata Power through its skill development endeavor, TPSDI has trained 13,527 people in FY18, thereby enhancing their employability prospects.
  5. Odisha
  6. The Governor inaugurated India International Mega Trade Fair and REDA Home Décor at Bhubaneswar and said the Government is giving importance to trade facilitation issues and working on ‘Ease of Doing Business’ in the country.
  7. Tata steel’s Ore Mines and Quarries Division has established two skill development centres at Joda block, with an objective to enhance and upgrade the skills of youth.

Punjab

  1. Post Graduate Government College for Girls has taken lead amongst all the Chandigarh Colleges to establish a fully equipped state of the art Skill Development Lab as per the mandate of Skill India initiatives of Government of India.
  2. To end shortage of teachers in rural areas, the government is thinking about the creation of district cadres for teachers.
  3. After the success of the first state level job fair, the government has decided to organise the second state-level job fair across the state from February 20 to March 10.
  4. The Central Scientific Instruments Organisation has entered into a MoU with Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone Limited to help facilitate medical device manufacturing in India.

Telangana

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd., which operates Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, has won the prestigious ‘Golden Peacock Award for Corporate Social Responsibility’ for 2017.

West Bengal

  1. IIT Kharagpur launched its own community welfare activities in several areas. The students and faculty of the Institute have engaged in these activities over several years offering free education, rural infrastructure development and vocational training.
  2. To encourage students of polytechnics and ITI students across the state to churn out innovative models and projects, the state Technical Education department has decided to hold exhibitions for showcasing their work.
  3. Lt Gen Abhay Krishna, called upon the industrial houses to employ retired Army officers to strengthen their industrial security apparatus and meet the growing need of trained manpower.
  4. The West Bengal Technical Education minister urged the jute sector to focus on skill development.
