Updates from the MSDE, NSDC, NCVET, UGC

  • The Indian government has recently announced significant achievements, initiatives, and partnerships that reinforce its commitment to global collaboration in skill development and education. These updates highlight India’s efforts to enhance its educational and skilling landscape through international engagement. Click here to read more…
  • UGC has approved guidelines for HEIs to develop leadership programs addressing local and national challenges, focusing on skill development, strategic vision, and adaptive leadership.
  • PM Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Karmayogi Saptah on Oct 19, 2024, as part of Mission Karmayogi, encouraging civil servants to commit to continuous learning for citizen-centric governance.
  • The UGC has invited stakeholder feedback on draft guidelines for an apprenticeship-embedded degree program, integrating hands-on training within undergraduate courses.
  • NCVET recognized Sri Sri University and Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), as an Awarding Body (AB – Dual), enabling it to award and certify learners for its approved qualifications.
  •  NCVET recognized Fashion Futures Consultants Pvt. Ltd. as an Assessment Agency, allowing it to conduct assessments for NSQF-aligned qualifications in the skilling ecosystem.

Updates on CSR-skill development

  • DCM Shriram Foundation has expanded its Khushali Sehat program in Bharuch district to enhance maternal and child health outcomes, signing an MoU with local health authorities to support frontline workers in reducing mortality rates.
  • To boost Telangana’s skill development, Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani donated Rs 100 crore to establish Young India Skills University, which will offer industry-relevant courses in healthcare, commerce, and logistics.
  • CSR leaders from Deloitte, Bosch, Merck, Quess Corporation, and SEG Automotive emphasized the importance of enhancing capacity building and resources for quality STEM education in Indian schools.
  • Under the ‘SAKSHAM’ CSR initiative, 289 students from Odisha’s Mahanadi Coalfields Limited have secured jobs in leading industries, with MCL aiming to train 1,010 candidates in partnership with NITCON Foundation.

Stakeholder collaboration – Industry, Academia and Government

  •  AICTE in partnership with 1M1B Green Skills Academy has launched one lakh green internship program aligned with NIRF standards to promote sustainability in education by 2030.
  • The government of Meghalaya has inaugurated a Vocational Training Institute at Synod College, Shillong, as part of the college’s diamond jubilee celebrations.
  • The Maharashtra government will offer free vocational higher education for females under NEP 2020 to boost girls’ enrollment and provide equitable educational access.
  • The Haryana government to launch short-term courses at 320 ITIs under the Maharishi Kashyap Skill Development Scheme to boost employability in trades like solar panel tech and plumbing.
  • Rajya Sabha member Vikramjit Singh Sahney has been appointed as vice-chairman of the National Apprenticeship Council by the Union government.
  • Delhi’s Directorate of Education has introduced guidelines for 10 “bagless days” in schools to foster a more enjoyable, stress-free learning experience.
  • The Kerala government has assigned ICT Academy of Kerala to set up skill development centers in higher education institutions statewide, enhancing employability through industry-aligned training.
  • The Pharmacy Council of India, in collaboration with LSSSDC under PMKVY funding, has launched skill and continuing education programs to enhance pharmacists’ skills nationwide.
  • A proposal to establish an ITI in Anchetti has been submitted to the Tamil Nadu government, alongside the implementation of Rs 25 lakh in welfare schemes from various departments.
  • A girl from Coimbatore has topped the All-India Trade Exam conducted by NCVT in Tool and Die Making course at Gedee Technical Training Institute.
  • Apollo Tyres has launched a skill training centre for transgender individuals in Hyderabad and provides stipends and practical training in jute bag making.
  • Dresden University of Technology and IIT Chennai have partnered to offer dual degrees, enhancing international academic opportunities for students from both countries.

  • COL-CEMCA Conducts Three-Day Workshop on Graduate Employability at YCMOU, Nashik, MaharashtraDr. Madhuri Dubey, Founder-Director, NSN, facilitated the workshop as a part of the Commonwealth of Learning - Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CoL-CEMCA) Project on enhancing graduate employability by integrating appropriate skills into the curriculum.The workshop was organized by CoL-CEMCA in collaboration with Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik, from 10th to 12th March, 2026, at the YCMOU campus in Nashik, Maharashtra under the guidance of Dr. B. Shadrach, Director, CEMCA and Dr Jane Agbu , Adviser Higher Education, Commonwealth of Learning.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane, honourable Vice-Chancellor, YCMOU, and coordinated by Dr. Amol Shirfule, Director i/c, Yash Center for Innovation, Incubation and Linkages and Dr. Nagarjun Wadekar, Director, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, YCMOU.As a part of the comprehensive Graduate Employability Project, the workshop brought together academic leaders representing different schools of specialization, course coordinators, and faculty members from YCMOU to strengthen curriculum design with a focus on employability skills and industry relevance.The workshop emphasised the transition from traditional content-driven teaching to outcome-based education using the Results-Based Management (RBM) Framework.
