Updates from the MSDE, NSDC, NCVET, UGC

  • MSDE reviewed the progress of the National Scheme for ITI Upgradation, following consultations with states and industry for its effective implementation.
  • Over 2,400 youth received job offers at the Bharatpur Kaushal Mahotsav, with over 70 industry leaders, including Flipkart, Zepto, and Burger King, offering 20,000+ job opportunities.
  • Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh launched the “VISION” initiative to foster education, skill development, and innovation among underprivileged children, aiming to democratize startup skills and provide mentorship access to remote areas.
  • Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Mansukh Mandaviya launched the “Jobs at Your Doorstep” report, emphasizing the need for a pan-India framework to enhance skilling, job opportunities, and economic empowerment for youth.

Updates on CSR-skill development

  • Schaeffler India announced winners of its 2024 Social Innovator Fellowship, awarding ₹1.5 lakh and mentorship to 10 projects driving sustainability, healthcare, and community impact.
  • The IFCCI CSR Conclave honored top Indo-French CSR projects across seven categories, emphasizing impact and measurement, with guests including France’s Ambassador, Roshni Nadar, and Virender Sehwag.
  • Gujarat reported an 86% growth in CSR investments over five years, with ₹7,140 crore allocated, making it India’s third-largest CSR fund recipient after Maharashtra and Karnataka.
  • Oil India Limited has invested over ₹1,183 crore in CSR initiatives over a decade, with ₹847 crore dedicated to Northeast India, highlighting its commitment to community empowerment and sustainability.
  • Samsung R&D India launched its flagship CSR program, Samsung Innovation Campus, at RNSIT Bengaluru, to train over 100 students in AI, coding, and emerging technologies.
  • NMDC Limited allocated ₹113.53 crore for CSR in Chhattisgarh for FY 2024-25, focusing on education, healthcare, child welfare, and rural infrastructure development.
  • Google.org awarded a $1 million grant to Karya to boost AI-based earning opportunities for low-income communities, alongside broader initiatives to build India’s AI-ready workforce.
  • ACC, through the Adani Foundation’s Skill Development Centre, has empowered rural youth like Poonam Nayak by providing skill training and placement opportunities.

Stakeholder collaboration – Industry, Academia and Government

  • India’s semiconductor industry is set to create 1 million jobs by 2026, spanning sectors like chip fabrication, testing, design, and supply chain management.
  • The Tripura government, in partnership with Tata Technologies, approved a plan to upgrade 19 ITIs over five years to equip youth with industry-relevant skills, boosting employability and entrepreneurship.
  • Indian food delivery firms like Swiggy, Zomato, and Delhivery are introducing skill development and financial literacy programs to support the well-being and career growth of their delivery partners.
  • Across 11 government ITIs128 youth are receiving drone training, as part of efforts to enhance vocational education in the state’s 363 technical institutes.
  • The Nagaland Tool Room and Training centre conducted a five-days skill training program in five trades such as Banana Fibre Extraction, Handicrafts, Handmade Paper and Pulp, Waste management and more to equip students with practical skills.
  • FICCI and GDAI inked an MoU at IGDC 2024 to boost growth, innovation, and skill development in creating a robust video gaming ecosystem in India.
  • IIT Guwahati and IRS launched India’s first training program in underwater welding and deep diving, boosting skills for maritime and energy industries.
  • Undertrial prisoners in Bhagalpur jails are being trained in vermicompost production through a collaborative initiative to equip them with agricultural skills.
  • NASSCOM Foundation and LEAD at Krea University launched a report, “Digital Dividends: Understanding the Use of Social Commerce by Women Entrepreneurs in Rural India, analyzing challenges and opportunities for rural women entrepreneurs in India using digital tools and social commerce.
  • KPMG India has partnered with NSE Academy to offer joint certificate programs in banking, financial services, and ESG, aimed at enhancing skills for professionals and students through short-duration digital courses.
  • Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has signed an MoU with the Department of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (SDE) to adopt Motor Mechanic Vehicle (MMV) trainees from Govt. ITI Roing.
  • APSSDC, the Overseas Manpower Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (OMCAP) and a Mumbai-based firm have signed a tripartite agreement to upskill youth in Andhra Pradesh for job opportunities across GCC, Middle East, Eastern Europe, and South Africa.
  • The Indian electronics industry, targeting $500 billion output by 2030, faces a critical skills gap despite rapid growth and the potential to create 12 million jobs, according to a TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship report.
  • Indian higher education is undergoing transformation, with a focus on internationalisation, multidisciplinary education, and dual degree approvals, as highlighted in the 2024 ASHE report.
  • LTIMindtree Foundation, in collaboration with FUEL and IIIT Dharwad, launches a skill development program to empower underserved youth with essential IT, AI, and Core Java skills, bridging the gap between education and employability.
