Top 4 highlights in skill education in India

  • SAP Labs India has collaborated with Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) and Edunet Foundation to open centre of excellence to emerging technologies under the Code Unnati program and promote skill development and employability for the youth.
  • MESC, under MSDE, had launched NSQF-Aligned Archival Conservator Program in collaboration with National Archives of India. The program aims to empower 1000 candidates with skills to restore and digitize old documents.
  • IHCL plans to expand skill training centers to 50 nationwide by next year, alongside ramping up online training with TCS to skill 1 lakh people by 2030.
  • The government of Assam and Tata to establish a Skill Development Centre in Jagiroad, offering courses in AI, semiconductors, and electronics for youth employment.

Exclusive Opportunities: EOI and RFP Updates from Government of Gujarat, TNSDC

EoI for setting up Centres of Excellence under MEGA TVET Project

The government of Gujarat is inviting EOIs for establishing Centers of Excellence under Gujarat’s MEGA TVET Project, transforming 41 Nodal ITIs into advanced training institutes aligned with Industry 4.0. Last date is April 8th, 2024. Click here to submit the application.

RFP for establishing Four International Standard Centres of Excellence under GATI project

The Government of Gujarat, through the Gujarat Skill Development Mission (GSDM) under the Labour, Skill Development, and Employment Department (LSD & ED), is inviting Request for Expression of Interest (EOI) to establish Four International Standard Centers of Excellence (CoE) under the GATI project. The last date is April 12th, 2024. Click here to know more and submit the proposal.

TNSDC-EOI for Master Trainers and Master Assessor

Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC) invites Expression of Interest (EOI) for Empanelment of Master Trainer and Master Assessor for Skill Development Training’s under TNSDC. Last date to apply is March 31st, 2024. Interested and eligible candidates shall submit their application by clicking on the link here.

Updates from the MSDE, NSDC, NCVET

  • NSDC has partnered with Shobhit University for Work Integrated Degree Programs, blending academic knowledge with practical exposure to equip students with in-demand skills.
  • MSDE has notified 180,000 companies to comply with Apprenticeship Act, urging them to hire mandated apprentices.
  • IIT Guwahati, NSDC, and Masai School launched India’s first Outcome-Driven Microcredit Course in Computer Science Education, focusing on essential job market skills.
  • NCVET and MSME Technology Centre signed an agreement for NCVET Recognition as Awarding Body (AB – Dual). This allows the MSME Technology Centre to award, assess, and certify learners directly in its campuses or training centers for approved qualifications.

Stakeholder collaboration – Industry, Academia and Government

  • The education department in Pune to introduce ‘Happy Saturday’ in government schools for 1 to 8th standards to prioritise students’ well being and equipe them through skill development.
  • MNRE to launch training program for green hydrogen sector, addressing skills gap with curriculum for schools, ITIs, polytechnics, and HIEs.
  • Internshala has partnered with Media and Entertainment skills council for skill development and develop training programs catering to the industry needs.
  • Shri Devendra Fadnavis and Shri Uday Samant inagurated a gem and jewellery training center in Ratnagiri, sponsored by GJEPC and the Union Ministry of Commerce & Industry, aiming to preserve Maharashtra’s jewellery heritage.
  • BetterPlace aims to upskill over a lakh frontline worker job-ready by 2025 where 25 per cent is intended to women in collaboration with the Department of Vocational Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Uttar Pradesh.
  • Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the opening of an ITI in Kotdhar, Bilaspur district, along with other development initiatives.
  • Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena approved renewing contracts for 461 part-time vocational teachers in Delhi government schools for 2024-25. This addresses the shortage of teachers for NSQF subjects introduced by CBSE.
  • The Assam government inaugurated Hospitality Skill Development Centre in Sonapur, aiming to equip youth with essential skills for thriving careers in the hospitality industry, thereby providing opportunities in the hotel sector.
  • NEH had launched a 2-day Entrepreneurship cum Skill Development Training at Khongnangthaba University, focusing on improving traditional fish products for relief camp inmates.
  • The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India Ahmedabad and Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda signed an MoU to bolster regional entrepreneurship ecosystem through collaborative expertise.
  • Orient Electric’s ‘Ujjwal’ initiative aims to empower 5,000 electricians across India by providing them with training and enhance employability in the industry.

Skilling and Upskilling in Emerging Technologies

  • Female enrollments in manufacturing and services have increased by 20x in 5 years according to the recent study by TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship. Women apprentices now shift to AI, ML, and Data Sciences, boosting productivity.
  • DGT has collaborated with Future Right Skills Network to soon introduce ‘AI for All’ curriculum in 15,000 ITIs aimed at building awareness of artificial intelligence and prepare students for a future-ready workforce.
