Updates from the MSDE, NSDC, NCVET, UGC

  • MSDE has partnered with Meta to launch an AI Assistant for the Skill India Mission and establish 5 Centers of Excellence in VR and MR at National Skill Training Institutes (NSTI) at Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Jodhpur, Chennai and Kanpur.
  • Union Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan announced the establishment of three AI Centres of Excellence in Healthcare, Agriculture, and Sustainable Cities, led by AIIMS, IIT Delhi, IIT Ropar, and IIT Kanpur.
  • Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary inaugurated a new National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) extension centre at Andhra Medical Tech Zone in Visakhapatnam to address skill gaps and boost employment opportunities for Andhra Pradesh’s youth.
  • India and Germany are set to sign a pact next week to facilitate the movement of workers and recognize skills, enabling skilled professionals from India to be easily absorbed by the German industry.
  • Ministry of Commerce and Industry has urged industry associations to collaborate with startups and promote young leadership, while also encouraging greater involvement of women entrepreneurs.

Stakeholder collaboration – Industry, Academia and Government

  • The SARAS Ajeevika Mela 2024, featuring over 900 rural women artisans from 30 states, was held from October 13 to 29 at Gurugram’s Leisure Valley Ground, showcasing diverse traditional crafts and products from across India.
  • JK Tyre and Industries received the Mahatma Award 2024 for CSR excellence, recognizing the company’s commitment to social impact through initiatives in education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, and water conservation.
  • The 6th International Conference on Sustainability Education (ICSE) by Mobius Foundation brought together 500+ experts to discuss “Greening Education for a Sustainable Future” and the role of ‘green education’ and ‘green jobs’ in global sustainability efforts.
  • The upcoming Chintan Shibir (Nov 21-23) will focus on rural employment, MSME growth, and enhancing Gujarat’s sports performance.
  • Punjab government has announced its plans to introduce AI in agriculture, education, finance and policing for better results.
  • The Indian Army set up a modern computer lab and Skill Development Centre in Manipur’s Senapati district under Operation Sadbhavana to empower the local community.
  • The Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) signed an MoU with K.M. Technical Training and Management Institute to offer affordable skill training to students, focusing on marginalized communities.
  • Maharashtra State Skills University will be renamed after Ratan Tata in honor of the late industrialist, the state government announced.
  • Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar laid the foundation stone of the Meghalaya Skill and Innovation Hub in Shillong, emphasizing the role of skills and innovation in enhancing human resources.
  • The district-level inauguration of the Samanyayam project, a collaboration between the state minority commission and the Kerala Knowledge Economy Mission, aims to provide job experience and skill training to unemployed graduates.
  • India Inc is intensifying training for new hires in response to the India Semiconductor Mission, with companies like AMD, Micron India, and LAM Research launching bootcamps and partnerships to bridge the skills gap.
  • The Telangana government plans to upgrade the Mahabubnagar ITI into a Skill Development Centre, with the IT Minister set to lay the foundation stone on October 23, as part of a broader initiative to revamp 65 ITIs across Telangana.
  • Chitkara University has partnered with KONE India to establish a Centre of Excellence for Vertical Transportation, offering a comprehensive course that combines academic knowledge with hands-on experience in a state-of-the-art lab.
