From empowering informal workers in Puducherry to upskilling fish farmers in Assam, this week’s Newsbytes from NSN on skill development reflects a strong momentum across India’s states. Skill development updates from the government

  • The UP Skill Development Mission has started reviving DDU-GKY to help rural youth to high-paying jobs by training them as per international standards.
  • The Maharashtra government to upgrade 20 ITIs with advanced labs and training facilities through MoUs, benefiting 9,750 trainees over four years, including PwD students.
  • The Labour Department of Puducherry, with the Un-Organized Labour Welfare Association, launched a special drive to register informal workers on the eShram portal, enabling access to central welfare benefits.
  • The government of Odisha has plans to launch a skill development training program under the Sweekruti scheme to ensure equal rights for the transgender community.

Skill development updates on CSR, Industry

  • Skyy Skill Academy has partnered with ESSCI to offer NSQF-aligned, job-oriented training and certifications in electronics, EVs, automation, and Industry 4.0.
  • BluPine Energy has launched four new Skill Development Training Centres in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, expanding its clean energy skilling initiative that has benefitted 904 individuals across multiple states.
  • NSDC International delegations visited Germany to explore strategic cross-border skill partnerships for building a future-ready global workforce.
  • India is emerging as a major player in the global semiconductor market, which hit $656 billion in 2024, with Nvidia leading chip suppliers, driven by GPU, CPU, memory, and mobile SoCs, according to Gartner.
  • NSDC and Reliance Foundation launched the Future Ready Skills Initiative across 700 institutions in Madhya Pradesh to empower 5 lakh students, starting with the MP Future Ready Skills Conclave.
  • CREDAI signed an MoU with NSDC and QCI to enhance skill training, certification, and workforce integration in the construction and real estate sector, with a focus on RPL and green building practices.
  • Bhumi has partnered with realme to scale youth empowerment through education and community programs, strengthening initiatives like the Bhumi Fellowship, SEL, and Schools of Excellence.
  • Bandhan Bank has donated ₹4 crore to Ramakrishna Mission under CSR to support the Viveka Tirtha centre, promoting education and skill development.

Skilling and upskilling in academia and emerging technologies

  • A 3-day training on Freshwater Pearl Culture Technology was held in Nagaon, Assam, benefiting 25 fish farmers with hands-on skills in pearl farming, pond management, and marketing.
  • Jammu & Kashmir’s School Education Department plans to introduce vocational education across all government high and higher secondary schools to scale up skill training and promote student self-reliance.
  • Kaushalya – The Skill University to expand its drone pilot training programme to 19 ITIs, boosting Gujarat’s position in India’s drone education and manufacturing ecosystem.

  • COL-CEMCA Conducts Three-Day Workshop on Graduate Employability at YCMOU, Nashik, MaharashtraDr. Madhuri Dubey, Founder-Director, NSN, facilitated the workshop as a part of the Commonwealth of Learning - Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CoL-CEMCA) Project on enhancing graduate employability by integrating appropriate skills into the curriculum.The workshop was organized by CoL-CEMCA in collaboration with Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik, from 10th to 12th March, 2026, at the YCMOU campus in Nashik, Maharashtra under the guidance of Dr. B. Shadrach, Director, CEMCA and Dr Jane Agbu , Adviser Higher Education, Commonwealth of Learning.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane, honourable Vice-Chancellor, YCMOU, and coordinated by Dr. Amol Shirfule, Director i/c, Yash Center for Innovation, Incubation and Linkages and Dr. Nagarjun Wadekar, Director, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, YCMOU.As a part of the comprehensive Graduate Employability Project, the workshop brought together academic leaders representing different schools of specialization, course coordinators, and faculty members from YCMOU to strengthen curriculum design with a focus on employability skills and industry relevance.The workshop emphasised the transition from traditional content-driven teaching to outcome-based education using the Results-Based Management (RBM) Framework.
