Empowering women entrepreneurs is key to driving India’s economic progress and fostering innovation. As we approach International Women’s Day 2025, themed “Accelerate Action,” it’s an opportune time to recognize the remarkable contributions of women in business. Despite their growing influence, challenges such as financial constraints, limited market access, and societal barriers continue to impede their success. Fortunately, several government-backed initiatives are actively bridging these gaps and providing women entrepreneurs with the support they need to thrive.

In this article, we bring you a curated list of the top five resources that can help women entrepreneurs scale their businesses. These platforms provide access to funding, mentorship, market linkages, and policy support, ensuring that women-led enterprises flourish in an increasingly competitive landscape.

Let’s explore how these initiatives contribute to fostering an inclusive and thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem in India.

Top 5 resources for Women Entrepreneurs in India

Women entrepreneurs play a crucial role in India’s economic growth and social development. Recognizing this, the Indian government has introduced various initiatives to support and empower women in business. Here are the top five active resources designed to help them scale their ventures:

Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP)

NITI Aayog’s WEP is a one-stop platform offering mentorship, funding, and business opportunities for women entrepreneurs. It facilitates networking and provides a repository of government and private sector initiatives. Through its structured support, WEP enables women to access essential business resources, learn from industry leaders, and navigate regulatory frameworks with ease. By fostering knowledge-sharing and capacity-building, WEP helps women entrepreneurs transform their ideas into successful enterprises, ensuring long-term sustainability and growth. (Visit: https://wep.gov.in/)

Government e-Marketplace (GeM)

GeM enables women-led businesses to sell products and services to government buyers. Special provisions, such as reserved categories for women entrepreneurs, offer greater market access. Additionally, the Womaniya initiative under GeM actively promotes women-owned businesses by streamlining the procurement process and offering exclusive benefits. Through this initiative, women entrepreneurs gain direct access to large-scale government projects, eliminating intermediaries and ensuring better profit margins. By simplifying the registration process and providing financial training, GeM strengthens the participation of women in India’s public procurement landscape. Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC)

ONDC democratizes e-commerce by connecting small businesses, including women entrepreneurs, to a broader market, allowing them to compete with large marketplaces. Unlike traditional e-commerce platforms, ONDC removes barriers to entry and reduces dependency on major players like Amazon and Flipkart. Women-led enterprises can list their products across multiple platforms, increasing their visibility and customer reach. Moreover, ONDC integrates logistics and digital payment services, making it easier for women to manage sales and deliveries efficiently. This initiative aligns with the government’s vision of empowering local businesses and promoting the “Vocal for Local” movement.

Top 5 Resources for Women Entrepreneurs in India

Startup India – Women Entrepreneurship Program

This initiative promotes women-led businesses through funding, incubation support, and training, along with access to startup schemes, tax benefits, and mentorship programs. Startup India also facilitates access to financial aid through schemes like the Startup India Seed Fund and Stand-Up India, helping women secure initial capital for their ventures. The initiative collaborates with industry experts and incubators to provide hands-on training, ensuring that women entrepreneurs gain the technical skills and business acumen needed to sustain and grow their enterprises. By fostering innovation and promoting gender inclusivity in the startup ecosystem, this program strengthens India’s entrepreneurial landscape. (Visit – Startup India)

Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI)

SIDBI plays a crucial role in strengthening women-led MSMEs by offering refinance facilities, short-term lending, and financial support. It also collaborates with various institutions to provide credit assistance, capacity-building programs, and mentorship opportunities for women entrepreneurs. SIDBI has launched several dedicated schemes, such as the Mahila Udyam Nidhi Scheme and the Stand-Up India Initiative, to provide collateral-free loans and working capital support. In addition to financial assistance, SIDBI conducts workshops and awareness programs to equip women with essential business management skills. Through these efforts, SIDBI ensures that women entrepreneurs receive holistic support, enabling them to scale their businesses confidently.

NITI Aayog’s Women-Focused Entrepreneurship Support

NITI Aayog’s policies focus on increasing women’s participation in entrepreneurship through financial support, skill development programs, and easier access to credit and reduced interest loans. According to NITI Aayog’s report Decoding Government Support to Women Entrepreneurs in India, these policies aim to address existing gender gaps in entrepreneurship. The framework also emphasizes policy advocacy and partnerships with private enterprises to create an ecosystem conducive to women’s business growth.

Women entrepreneurs in India face multiple challenges, from lack of financial support to social barriers. With access to these platforms they can overcome these hurdles and significantly contribute to India’s economy.

India could add USD 0.7 trillion to its GDP by integrating 68 million more women into the workforce by 2025 (McKinsey Global Institute). Ensuring 50% workforce participation for women could increase India’s GDP growth by 1.5 percentage points (World Bank). These resources not only provide financial aid and mentorship but also create a conducive environment for women entrepreneurs to thrive in various industries.

This Women’s Day, let’s take meaningful steps toward empowering women entrepreneurs. Leveraging these government-backed platforms can be a game-changer in fostering inclusive economic growth. Investing in women accelerates progress, drives innovation, and strengthens India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
