TCS iON, in collaboration with Apollo Medskills, organised a Skills Conclave at Hyderabad on 29th June 2022. The conclave was organised to create awareness about the FINE (Finishing Skills for Nursing Excellence) programme developed by Apollo Medskills and digitally delivered by TCS iON through a phygital model. The programme aims to transform Nursing Education by providing finishing touches to the academically acquired skills of the nurses by upskilling them as per the industry requirements.

Through this programme, TCS iON and Apollo Medskills envision transforming nursing education in India and making the nurses globally competent. The FINE programme is a unique, job-linked skilling programme aimed to help nurses who are keen on a career in the Healthcare sector.

“We aim to take the best quality skill training for nurses developed by Apollo Medskills to multiple locations across the country with the use of technology. The training would take place through the phygital model and aid in scaling the training programme”, said Mr. Sudhakar Gudipati, Business Unit Head – Vocational Education, TCS iON, Tata Consultancy Services.

Partnering with TCS iON has helped us solve the delivery of the programme across the country with the help of technology”, said Dr. Srinivasa Rao Pulijala, CEO, Apollo Medskills Limited, while addressing the participants in the Skills Conclave.

The FINE programme aims to:

  • Align the learning competencies of nursing students with the current needs of the healthcare sector
  • Address the skill gaps that the nurses face in their work environment, preparing them to face the real world
  • Enhance the overall knowledge, thus providing a progressive career to the nursing students

Key skills gained through the programme:

  • Clinical skills of patient care
  • Quality and patient safety standards
  • Digital skills in healthcare
  • Clinical Communication

While discussing the challenges faced by nurses training, Ms. Rajeshwari, Dean, CARE Group of Colleges and President, Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI), Telangana, said, “One of the challenges we face is the availability of a sufficient number of faculty, who are skilled and trained on the latest technologies and methods. We also face the challenge of the availability of the latest labs to train our nurses. We currently can train them only on basic knowledge but hands-on training remains a challenge”.

The conclave not only reiterated the need for strengthening Nursing Education in India, but it also catalysed new thought and action to bridge the industry-academia gap through a skilling programme delivered through a phygital model.
