We got a bit delayed in bringing out this edition of News Digest and our newsletter Skill Times from NSN. That’s because we had recently brought out the Exclusive Edition on German Dual System of Vocational Training featuring experts from Germany who shared their knowledge and advice. The skill space in India is getting more vibrant with many initiatives in training, apprenticeship and policy level speculations. Let’s get updated with the news and happenings in the first fortnight of June all across India. Here’s updating you with the next edition of skill development news digest 160617.

News from the states

Andhra Pradesh : APSSDC has teamed up with Ayush Department to organise a three-month training camp in Ayurveda therapy Panchakarma and Yoga related courses in Tirupati. The participants would also get employment opportunities after completing the course.

Bihar: General Electric – GE, partnered with Ministry of Skill Development to give boost to Skill India Mission. It will source its skilled workers at the Greenfield manufacturing base in Bihar.

Himachal Pradesh: SJVN Limited has undertaken to impart skill development training to 1,600 local individuals as a part of “Skill India Initiative”. Youth will be trained in the fields of horticulture, floriculture, vegetable, mushroom farming, bee-keeping, medicinal and aromatic plants, nursery plant protection, organic farming and environment impact assessment, etc.

Karnataka: (1) Samsung India has decided to expand the technical training schools being run along Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the course of the next three years in Bangalore. (2) The Karnataka government signed an MoU with Siemens for setting up of centre of excellence in Dandeli, Mysuru, Bengaluru and Kalaburgi

Madhya Pradesh : Centum WorkSkills India Limited, in partnership with MSDE and NSDC, launched the first state-of-the-art Model Training Centre (MTC), called Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK) at Indore.

Nagaland: An interactive seminar on career planning and skill development was organized by Don Bosco Alumni Association, Wokha unit, in collaboration with the Pinnacle Skills at Don Bosco youth centre hall in Dimapur.

Delhi: Tata Motors, in association with Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) is aiming to train around 40,000 people in the next 3 years in skills associated with automobile industry as one of the parts of its programmes to provide technical and vocational education for unemployed youth.

National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has signed a MoU with Bird Academy to impart training to 35,000 candidates and set up Model Centres in several locations across India with a strong focus to enhance skills and create a market ready workforce in the Aviation & Aerospace Sector.

National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) is training construction workers in the North East to handle equipment used in the sector under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana.

Union Minister launched the ‘Skill for Life, Save a Life’ initiative for to upscale the quantity and quality of trained professionals in the healthcare system.

The Delhi Police will be imparting vocational skills to over 2500 youngsters to ensure employment and to avoid youth crime

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is set to launch its Skill Development Centre, a Smart City project on 25th June 2017.

Pipes and Polymer firm, Skipper Limited is planning on training 10,000 aspiring plumbers from all over the country with Indian Plumbing skill Council.

Punjab: The Punjab state government and the government of UK settled on an agreement to collaborate for the purpose of imparting skill training and technical education in the youths to give them better opportunities to work abroad.

Rajasthan :Hindustan Zinc Mining Academy, in collaboration with Skill Council for Mining Sector and Indian Institute of Skill Development Pvt. Ltd is expected to spend Rs.30 Crore in the next five years to train 500 ITI pass-outs in Jumbo Drill Operations and Winding Engine operations.

Telangana: Samsung Digital Academy in partnership with Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) launched in Hyderabad to traing students in Tizen OS platform including Application Development Process, Testing and Debugging, Device APIs.

West Bengal: (1) Ashok Leyland, flagship of Hinduja Group in partnership with JIS group educational initiatives has launched a world-class training centre in Kolkata. (2) The state government will organise workshops and training sessions to prepare a road map for skill development of farmers to cater to the needs of those in agriculture and allied sectors both in India and abroad.

Central Government: (1) India and Germany agreed to strengthen collaboration keeping in mind the importance of Vocational Education and Training (VET) towards making a difference in creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for the youth and to building an efficient pool of skilled human resource. (2) The Centre has made a major policy shift under its Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) programmes, it has now decided to change its model from the current supply driven to demand driven.
