CEMCA Skillfest 2023: A one-of-its-kind online skills competition by CEMCA and NSN
Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) regional centre of the Commonwealth of Learning (CoL) and National Skills Network – NSN, India has launched a one-of-its-kind online skills competition, CEMCA Skillfest 2023.
The competition invites participation from 8 Asian Commonwealth countries viz, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. Read more…

Skill development news from the industry
- To promote skill development and entrepreneurship in the design and technology sector, NSDC signed an MoU with Institute of Design and Technology (IDT).
- Himachal Pradesh Kaushal Vikas Nigam has signed pacts with various Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) to provide skill training for the youth of the state in different segments, including aerospace, power sector, tourism & hospitality, and more.
- The Logistics Skill Council has designated the Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations in India (FFFAI) as a Training Partner. This would provide the skill-development initiatives in India’s logistics sector a major boost.
- CASE Construction Equipment commemorates its many skill development programs at the CASE Skill Development Centre in Pithampur, providing employability skills to youths by training them as Backhoe Loader Operators.
Skill development news from the academia
- As part of its 100 Days Skill Festival, which ran from December 17, 2022, to April 3, 2023, the Delhi University (DU) trained more than 400 students from 90 various institutions and courses across India.
- The government of Odisha established a training program for teachers in higher secondary schools to revamp vocational education in schools.
- Maharashtra government to provide a stipend of ₹500 to all ITI students and launch a career guidance web portal soon.

- Haryana: Haryana government to soon launch a state-wide skill development program for +2 dropouts. Students will receive specialised skill-based training as part of the programme to improve their employability.
- Nagaland: DGC’s Skill Development Committee collaborated with NTTC Dimapur for an Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Training that ended with a valedictory program at DGC.
- Odisha: Odisha won a ‘State Leadership Award’ in skill development at the India Energy Storage Alliance (ISEA) Industry Excellence Awards 2023.
- Telangana: A skill development centre will soon be established in Bellampalli to help the people find employment following Orient Cement’s expansion.
- Uttar Pradesh: The Uttar Pradesh government proposed a skill development subsidy to private companies under its electric vehicle policy to encourage the manufacturing of electrical vehicles (EV).
