NSDC expands Skilling Footprint with 50 Future Skill Centres and 10 International Academies

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has announced a significant expansion in its skilling ecosystem to enhance workforce readiness. This initiative includes the establishment of 50 new Future Skill Centres and 10 NSDC International Academies, alongside advancements in digital infrastructure, apprenticeship programs, and global workforce mobility.

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the skilling landscape, NSDC aims to create wider access to emerging skill opportunities and international collaborations. This expansion is expected to impact thousands of learners, equipping them with industry-relevant skills and enhancing employability. Here are the key highlights announced from the Annual Press Conference on NSDC’s latest expansion plans:

Key highlights from the expansion plan

Future Skill Centres (50 New Centres)

To equip youth with skills in emerging technologies and enhance workforce readiness:

  • These centres will provide training in AI, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, and other emerging technologies.
  • Industry-aligned curriculum with advanced infrastructure and expert trainers will ensure high-quality training.
  • NSDC is collaborating with 33 leading global corporations to offer practical exposure.
  • Over 2.70 lakh square feet of training infrastructure will be developed.
  • More than 300 industry-aligned programs covering 12 major emerging technologies will be introduced.
  • A target is set to train over 2 lakh candidates.

NSDC expands Skilling Footprint with 50 Future Skill Centres and 10 International Academies

International Academies (10 New Academies)

To support Indian youth in securing global job opportunities:

  • These academies will offer globally recognized certifications and sector-specific training.
  • Foreign language proficiency courses and job placement support will be provided.
  • New language labs and assessment centres will offer training in Russian, Italian, Korean, and French to enhance global employability.
  • Collaborations with Germany, Japan, and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries will help meet international workforce demands.
  • Israel has requested 5,000 healthcare workers, highlighting the increasing global demand.

NSDC International Academy

A specialized initiative to facilitate overseas employment:

  • Inaugurated by Shri Jayant Chaudhary, the academy will focus on overseas job placements.
  • It will provide language training, cultural orientation, and industry-specific skills.
  • Candidates will receive assistance with visa processes, interview preparation, and employer connections.
  • NSDC International has facilitated over 88,924 overseas jobs in 22 countries.
  • More than 64,000 candidates have been deployed globally, including to GCC nations, Japan, and the UK.

Strategic goals of the expansion

  • Boost employability: Train Indian youth for emerging industries and global job markets.
  • Promote inclusive growth: Provide skilling opportunities to underrepresented communities, including women and socio-economically disadvantaged groups.
  • Strengthen industry collaboration: Partner with global companies and institutions to ensure training remains relevant.
  • Enhance digital skilling: The Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) has reached 1.30 crore candidates, offering 7,100+ courses in 23 Indian languages.
  • Expand job-as-skills model: Plans include onboarding 1 million students, introducing joint certification programs, and integrating training tools from OEMs.
  • Increase apprenticeship engagement: Over 3.5 million apprentices have been engaged across various sectors, with financial disbursement of INR 100,250 million to support programs.

Technological and industry partnerships

To enhance digital skilling and employment opportunities:

  • NSDC JobX platform: An advanced job portal connecting job seekers with employers, offering resume-building, career coaching, and job alerts.
  • NSDC trust for digital verification: Provides digitally verifiable credentials, ensuring global compliance and security for workforce verification.
  • Corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives: Secured INR 2676 million for skilling initiatives, benefiting 192,111 candidates through 147 projects with 67 corporate partners.
  • Collaboration with higher education institutions: 17 micro-credential programs launched with 11 premium institutions, awarding over 75,000 credits.
  • Future plans: Expand collaborations to 15 institutions, introduce 30+ micro-credential programs, and award 1,80,000 credits.

NSDC Skilling Impact and Outreach

The expansion will significantly strengthen India’s skilling and employment landscape. NSDC has trained over 40.3 million candidates, with 9.4 million securing placements. More than 18.3 million women have been trained, promoting gender inclusivity, while 12.9 million candidates from socio-economically disadvantaged groups have been empowered. Over 250,000 individuals with special abilities have also been trained. Skilling initiatives span across 36 sector skill councils and over 750 districts, with financial support and infrastructure investments exceeding INR 30,000 million.

NSDC’s expansion aligns with its vision of creating a robust, future-ready workforce by integrating emerging technologies, digital tools, and global employment opportunities. With continued collaboration between industry and academia, these initiatives will significantly enhance India’s skilling landscape and global competitiveness.
