This week’s NSN Newsbytes highlights key developments shaping India’s skilling and education landscape, from policy initiatives and government-led reforms to industry collaborations and CSR-driven programmes. Major announcements include the launch of the Skills Outcomes Fund, record growth in apprenticeships under NAPS, and expanded focus on inclusive and future-ready skilling. Tata STRIVE Job Openings – AI-driven job roles in the ITI ecosystem

Tata STRIVE, an initiative of the Tata Community Initiatives Trust (TCIT), is inviting applications for multiple roles supporting AI-enabled skilling initiatives across Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in India. These roles are part of a nationwide effort to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into non-IT vocational trades such as Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive, and Fashion Technology. India – Australia Toolkit to Strengthen Applied Learning in Secondary Schools

A new Toolkit developed by the Australia India Institute and partner institutions will help Indian secondary schools integrate applied learning into mainstream education. Aligned with NEP 2020, it offers practical resources for curriculum design, pedagogy, assessment, and industry partnerships, thereby strengthening India-Australia education collaboration. Apprenticeship opportunities – Apply Now!

  • Applications are invited for the DRDO INMAS Apprenticeship 2026–27, offering one-year training opportunities for graduate, diploma, and ITI candidates in Delhi. Eligible candidates can apply online by April 30, 2026, to gain hands-on experience in a premier defence research institute. Click here to Apply!

Highlights from this week’s Newsbytes 

  • India’s healthcare and pharmaceutical sector is entering a capability-led growth phase, expected to create 2-2.5 million jobs by 2030, with 30-35% of the workforce needing reskilling, according to an Adecco India report.
  • Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, Government of India, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, launched the Skills Outcomes Fund to mobilise public and private capital for outcomes-based financing, aiming to link skilling investments with verified employment and improve livelihoods for low-income youth.
  • Shri Shaktikanta Das, Principal Secretary to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, visited the World Skill Center, Bhubaneswar, to review its Centres of Excellence and highlight its role in advancing industry-aligned, outcome-driven skill development and technical education in India.
  • India’s apprenticeship training surged in FY26, with NAPS registrations reaching a record 3.06 million, driven by reforms such as higher stipends and increased focus on expanding on-the-job skill development opportunities.

Government-led programmes strengthening India’s skilling ecosystem

  • NCVET conducted a capacity-building workshop for Awarding Bodies on April 7, 2026, in New Delhi, focusing on regulatory alignment, digital platforms, and strengthening India’s vocational education ecosystem.
  • Hyderabad’s Mehrunisha Begum won gold in Logistics & Freight Forwarding at IndiaSkills 2026, organised by NSDC, after advancing through multiple selection rounds from district to national level.
  • Union Budget 2026 – 27 boosted India’s Orange Economy, allocating ₹250 crore to set up AVGC labs in 15,000 schools and 500 colleges to build a future-ready creative technology workforce.
  • Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education, launched Career Cards for Children with Special Needs to expand inclusive career guidance, developed with UNICEF, NCERT, and partner institutions to ensure equitable access for learners nationwide.
  • The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) signed an implementation plan with KOICA to boost skill development in shipbuilding, aiming to build a future-ready maritime workforce under India’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

State governments driving skills and innovation

  • The Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI), Jammu, concluded the third ESDP batch under the RAMP initiative, training 30 participants in entrepreneurship, business planning, and digital skills to promote self-employment and MSME growth among youth.
  • Sikkim won a bronze medal at Skill India Competition 2026 in its debut participation, showcasing excellence among competitors from across 63 trade sectors at the national event in Greater Noida.
  • Telangana launched a skill development programme for transgender persons, offering training in drone piloting, hotel management, and driving to promote inclusion, dignity, and livelihood opportunities.
  • A three-month tailoring training programme under the Shakti Sadan Project was launched in Kangpokpi, Manipur, to empower over 20 women, including displaced persons, through skill development.
  • Nagaland inaugurated the expanded Industry 4.0 Centre of Excellence ‘SRUJAN’ at NTTC Dimapur, supported by Bharat Forge and SimuSoft, to strengthen advanced manufacturing skills and training in the state.

Industry collaborations boosting job-ready talent

  • SIMPACT 2026 in New Delhi united healthcare leaders to explore simulation-based training, AI, and VR, highlighting innovative approaches to enhance clinical skills and workforce readiness across India’s healthcare sector.
  • MediSim VR partnered with AIIMS New Delhi to integrate AI-enabled VR into medical and nursing education, advancing research on immersive training and its impact on clinical skill development and standardisation.
  • Diageo India partnered with THSC to train and certify over 300 youth under the “Learning for Life” programme, equipping them with industry-relevant hospitality skills for improved career opportunities.
  • Indian Hotels Company trained over 42,000 youth and expanded its skilling network to meet rising hospitality demand, focusing on building local talent pipelines, especially in emerging and underserved regions.
  • ASDC and HCLFoundation certified 90 taxi driver trainees in Bengaluru, including 82 women, under a skill initiative promoting gender inclusion, employability, and safe driving in the mobility sector.
  • edForce partnered with NVIDIA to expand training in AI, accelerated computing, and data applications, addressing the rising demand for digital skills amid rapid global growth in AI-driven jobs and productivity.
  • Tata Group subsidiary Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) trained over 42,000 youth and expanded its skilling centres to 83, accelerating efforts to build a strong hospitality talent pipeline amid rapid industry growth and rising demand.
  • Toyota Kirloskar Motor partnered with Wipro 3D to establish an additive manufacturing Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, offering hands-on training to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry needs.

CSR initiatives supporting education and livelihoods

  • Samsung certified 1,000 students in Maharashtra under its Innovation Campus programme, providing training in AI and coding to boost digital skills and support India’s growing technology-driven workforce.
  • LTM rolled out the “Universal AI” programme, developed by MIT Open Learning with upGrad Enterprise, to enhance AI literacy and decision-making skills across technical and non-technical employees.
  • M3M Foundation partnered with GovindSagar BLF in Himachal Pradesh to launch a rural livelihood initiative, providing training and skill development support to women, youth, and Self-Help Groups in Bangana Block.
  • RHI Magnesita received the Andhra Pradesh Government’s CSR Award for its contributions to the P4 initiative, recognising its efforts in education, healthcare, rural development, and skill enhancement.
  • Biocon Foundation launched the first BioWISE cohort with BeST and NCBS, supporting 25 women students from Tier 2 and 3 institutions in Karnataka to boost participation in STEM fields.

Emerging tech and industry partnerships in higher education

  • IIT Delhi launched a 7-month AI Leadership Programme under its CEP, covering AI, digital transformation, and business skills, with applications open for the third batch starting July 2026.
  • The Institute of Bakery & Culinary Arts (IBCA) announced scholarships up to ₹1 lakh for over 400 aspiring chefs, supporting enrolment in culinary and bakery programmes with industry-focused training across diploma and certification courses in India.
  • The National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCB) signed an MoU with Delhi Technological University (DTU) to boost research collaboration, training, and skill development in cement and construction, promoting innovation and sustainable infrastructure across India’s construction ecosystem.
  • Max Healthcare was recognised by NCVET as a Dual Awarding Body, enabling it to deliver and certify industry-aligned programmes, including AI-focused healthcare courses, to strengthen workforce readiness and employability.
  • The Council of Architecture (CoA) signed an MoU with NCVET as a Dual Awarding Body to promote competency-based training, enabling industry-aligned courses in architecture and enhancing employability and skill development across the sector.
