National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and the Haryana State Government organized placement drives for 274 students, who opted for placement after completing their 12th standard. These students were trained on NSQF Level 4 under the Vocationalisation of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education (VSHSE) program launched by MHRD in 2012. More than 378 eligible candidates had applied for job opportunities in various sectors i.e. Automotive, Beauty & Wellness, IT-ITeS, Healthcare, Sports, Retail and Security.

NSDC Haryana placement driveThe placement drives were organised in five different locations – Jind (Hisar), Karnal, Ambala, Rohtak and Gurgaon covering 100 schools across 21 districts. NSDC through its SSCs and training partners, roped in 40 recruiters including large corporates such as Max Hospital, VLCC, Dr. IT, Lilliput, Lovely Salon, Healers at Home, Vishal Mega Mart, Portea, Nisa Security, G4S, Easy Day, Shopclues, Café Coffee Day, Big Bazaar, Bajaj Auto Finance, SV Edusports and Pasco Maruti workshop.  Skill India had earlier entered into partnership with Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), as part of the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF), to implement vocational training at the school level. The training program is conducted for students in 9th to 12th standard as an optional subject, where they progress from level 1 (class 9) to level 4 (class 12) over the four years of training and are ready to join the workforce after completing their school education.

Commenting on the event Mr. Manish Kumar, MD & CEO, NSDC said, “We have been actively linking school education with industry relevant vocational training and have expanded this partnership with MHRD to 7209 schools across 24 states. This would provide career pathways and improved livelihood opportunities to those who opt out of formal education after completing their school education.”

“We are elated to see the great response from the students who participated in this placement drive. We are thankful to the corporates who acknowledged these skilled candidates and offered them placements. We look forward to organising many such placement drives across other states in future”, Mr. Kumar added. The VSHSE program was initially launched across 40 schools in Haryana covering 4 sectors i.e. IT-ITeS, Retail, Automobile and Security. Today the scheme has expanded to 990 schools in the state and has trained over 45,000 students across 12 sectors including Healthcare, Tourism & Hospitality, Beauty & Wellness, BFSI, Media & Entertainment, Physical Education and Sports etc.

Students are assessed at the end of each academic year by the respective Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) and are certified jointly by the Board of School Education and the SSCs post successful completion of the course.

NSDC has conducted similar placement drives for eligible candidates in Himachal Pradesh over the last 3 years where corporates such as TATA BSS, Eureka Forbes, Bajaj Allianz, Café Coffee Day, Dominos, Club Mahindra, MAX Healthcare, Hyundai etc. recruited candidates in large numbers.
