29th CII Regional Work Skill Competition – Southern Region

CII – Southern Region, is organizing the 29th CII Regional Work Skill Competition from 8th to 10th February 2017. Let’s get to know some details about how the competition was started, the rules of the competition, eligibility, recognition and so on.

The Work skill competition was initiated by CII on the lines of the Skills Olympics organized by the industry in Europe as a means of promoting vocational training in industrial skills. The first CII Work skills was held in 1989 at the Advanced Training Institute, Dasnagar, Howrah where, 205 workers from the Indian Industry participated in this event. In view of the overwhelming response received in the first Work skill, CII has institutionalized this competition as a major event for the industrial work force, held every year at the Regional and National levels.

Why should you participate: The objectives of the competition are: to encourage workers in the industry by providing recognition for individual merit and excellence in skills through organized competition in selected trades and to upgrade the standards and status of vocational trades and promote skills development program in the industry.

Dates: 8-10- February-2017

Venue: Advance Training Institute (ATI), CTI Campus, Guindy, Chennai

Categories for the Competition: Up to 22 years of age and above 22 years of age.

Trades for the Competition: The competition is being held in nine trades such as:

  • Electrician
  • Machinist (Miller)
  • Welder
  • Fitter
  • Turner
  • Industrial Electronics
  • Tool & Die Maker
  • Diesel Mechanic
  • COPA (Computer Operator cum Processing Assistant)

Recognition: The Winner and Runner-Up in each trades will be sent for the National Work Skill Competition. The Winners from all the region will be competing in the National Level Competition. The Winners of each trade in the National Work Skill Competition will be selected for World Skill Competition to represent India.

Certification: Merit Certificate will be provided to the Winners and Participation Certificate will be provided to other than participants of the Regional Work Skill Competition.

Target Audience

  • (Under 22 years) The Competition is open for all the candidates from ITI / Polytechnic / Engineering Students / Government and Private Vocational Training Institutions.
  • (Above 22 years) CII Member Companies and other corporate institutions and industries.

Delegate Fee (Inclusive of Tax 15%)

  • Institutional Participation (Students from ITI / Polytechnic / Educational Institutions): Rs.3000/- per delegate
  • Organizational / Industry Participation: Rs. 10000/- per delegate

Note: Fee includes Service Tax, Examination Fee, Assessment Fee, Material Cost, Food and Refreshment Cost.
