Enhancing Employability through Industry-Integrated Courses at SGSU

One of the most critical enablers in transforming India’s higher education landscape is strategic industry-academia partnerships. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 strongly advocates for bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills by promoting vocational education, apprenticeship-embedded degrees, and on-the-job training (OJT). It urges educational institutions to actively collaborate with industries in curriculum development, skill-based education to enhance employability, ensuring students graduate with the right skills.

At the center of this transition is the call for universities to become dynamic ecosystems where learning is not confined to classrooms, but shaped by real industry challenges and workforce demands. NEP’s mandate for credit-based modular learning, multiple entry-exit options, and NSQF/NCrF-aligned courses is paving the way for programs that are deeply practical and outcome-driven.

“At SGSU, the approach is centered around strong industry partnerships. Our curriculum is designed to be 70% hands-on and practical training and skill-oriented. This skill orientation is delivered through real-world projects, internships, and apprenticeships that take place outside the classroom. We believe that meaningful learning happens in the actual world of work, especially when a student is actively engaged in a project.

When education is work-integrated and aligned with industry needs, the curriculum becomes more relevant and engaging for students. We offer something that truly resonates with learners and equips them with real skills. That’s why technology integration and industry collaboration are critical components of curriculum design at SGSU,” Dr. Siddharth Chaturvedi, Chancellor, SGSU.

Collaborative Courses at SGSU

As an industry-powered university, SGSU offers a wide array of collaborative programs developed with leading companies and sector partners. These programs combine domain-specific knowledge with practical training and are delivered with direct inputs from employers.

Industry oriented courses:
  • IBM Powered: B.Tech (CSE) in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)
  • Google Powered: B.Tech (CSE) and BCA in Cloud Computing and M.Sc in Cloud Computing
  • Geeks of Gurukul Powered: B.Tech (CSE) in AI and Data Science and BCA in AI and Machine Learning

Enhancing Employability through Industry-Integrated Courses at SGSU

Other industry-powered programs:
  • Hyundai Powered: Mechanical Diploma in Automotive Technology
  • VVDN Powered: Diploma in Electrical and Electronics
  • NRAI Powered: BBA in Hospitality and Restaurant Management
  • Tally Powered: B.Com in Financial Accounting
  • MEPSC Powered: B.Com in HR Operations
  • NSDC Powered: Global Certifications

These programs reflect SGSU’s strong commitment to industry-aligned education that not only teaches but prepares students for the fast-evolving demands of the job market.

Work-Integrated Learning Program (WILP): Turning NEP 2020’s vision into action at SGSU

Scope Global Skills University (SGSU), Central India’s first NEP and NSQF-aligned skills university, is pioneering this approach through their Work Integrated Learning Program (WILP). Designed to align with NEP 2020 and UGC guidelines, WILP blends 70% practical learning with 30% theoretical learning, enabling students to earn a degree while gaining work experience in their chosen field.

This focus on industry-integrated curriculum directly addresses the skill-employability gap by empowering students with sector-relevant training from day one. SGSU’s Work-Integrated Learning Programs (WILP) build on this approach through a structured mix of academic learning and practical industry exposure.

The program covers 23 sectors and includes over 40 courses across diploma, bachelor’s, master’s, and apprenticeship-embedded programs. They are designed to meet industry demands, enhance employability, and align closely with the goals of NEP 2020.

Industry-integrated curriculum at SGSU

The WILP curriculum at SGSU including D.Voc, B.Voc, and M.Voc programs, is designed around real-world job roles, ensuring that each course leads to a clear and relevant career path. With courses in areas such as IT/ITeS, Automotive, Retail, Healthcare, Logistics, and Telecom, SGSU equips its learners not just with a qualification, but make them job-ready.

Strategic industry collaborations for practical exposure

In alignment with NEP 2020’s emphasis on vocational training, SGSU’s courses are designed in consultation with industry partners. This ensures relevance and responsiveness to evolving skill needs.

Why industry partnerships are essential

SGSU’s approach affirms that industry is not merely a beneficiary of education, but an active stakeholder in shaping it. Industry participation helps bridge the gap between academia and employment by:

  • Co-designing and co-delivering curriculum
  • Offering structured apprenticeships and OJT
  • Creating pathways from classroom to career
  • Enhancing placement outcomes through real-world exposure

This model showcases how NEP 2020 can be implemented through holistic, multidisciplinary, and employability-focused education. SGSU has collaborated with companies like IBM to bring real-time industry practices into academia.

While SGSU has already partnered with over 400 industry collaborators for training and placements, the success of models like WILP depends on more institutions embracing this approach. To truly bridge the education-employment gap at scale, every university and higher education institution must actively engage with industry, as a strategic co-creator of curriculum and career pathways. These partnerships go beyond skilling; they are about nurturing future-ready individuals equipped to thrive in a rapidly evolving workforce.

The future of learning is work-integrated

The structure of WILP with its modular format, multiple entry-exit options, and credit-linked learning hours is in alignment with the vision of the National Credit Framework (NCrF) introduced under NEP 2020.

In this emerging landscape shaped by NEP 2020, WILP is more than just a course, it’s a career incubator. By embedding skills training within higher education and forging strong industry collaborations, SGSU empowers students to “learn while they earn,” transform aspirations into employment, and become part of India’s skilled workforce. With its focus on practical learning, world of work and credit-based flexibility, WILP reflects the very spirit of NEP 2020. As industry continues to play a critical role in curriculum design and skill development, programs like WILP are not only addressing the skill-employability gap but also shaping a future-ready education system.
