Last two weeks have seen action packed events, meetings and exhibitions in skill development, training and entrepreneurship. While events like the 7th CII Global Summit on Skill Development saw huge participation, there was equal interest in the job fair, organized as a part of the event. We also had the Security Skills and Leadership Summit in the consecutive week. At the same time, there were announcements, MoUs and meetings held by MSDE, NSDC and State Skill Development Missions. Here’s updating you with the next edition of skill development news digest 151116.

Andhra Pradesh: The National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC), in association with the SCR, is organising skill development training programmes for the family members of Safai Karamcharis, to avail the facility, and enrol their names for undergoing training in the courses of their choice.

Assam: Guwahati will soon have a regional NSDC office. The NSDC will open offices in 12 cities as part of its effort to expand operations across the country to support states and training partners, ensuring that the courses align to the NSQF.

Delhi: 1. The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) have entered into collaboration for starting a Skill Development Centre at various campuses to train the students in vocational education. 2. Intex, Tata Institute of Social Sciences tie-up to provide academic qualification to semi-skilled workers

Gujarat: Suzuki Motor Corporation plans to set up an industrial training institute to cooperate on the human resource development in the manufacturing sector in India.

Karnataka: 1. MILES, a multi-sport leadership development program has designed curriculum to help students develop leadership and social-emotional skills, besides improving their physical fitness using sports as a medium. 2. LabourNet Services India, a partner of NSDC has launched the RPL scheme for tailors working in the apparel sector. Through RPL assessments and certifications, candidates will be able to align competencies that they have acquired informally with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) for better opportunities in employment and higher education.

Odisha: The Government signed a memorandum with NTPC for setting up a modern polytechnic college in the Sundargarh district. NTPC would spend Rs 25 crore for construction of classrooms, workshops and libraries.

Punjab: Punjab government has set up five Multi Skill Development Centres and three Health Sector Skill Development Centres to provide training in various trades such as apparel, electrical, automotive & engineering, telecom, banking & financial services, healthcare, transport logistics and warehousing, hospitality, food processing and retail.

Rajasthan: Rise India has signed an MoU with the Rajasthan government to set up large driving training centres at all divisional headquarters of the state.

Telangana: 7th CII Global Summit on Skill development was conducted in Hyderabad. The new skill development policy of Telangana will not only focus on introducing courses that reflects on the needs of the industry but will also focus on strengthening the interaction between the industry and skill development institutes.

News from the industry sectors

Aviation sector: Bombardier Business Aircraft and Aviation Performance Solutions (APS) announced, industry safety initiative to enhanced safety through targeted flight training solutions and pilot education.

Telecom sector: The Telecom sector signed an MoU with Taiwan to train individuals in the telecom industry and seek help from various organisations that do so.

Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC)l signs an MoU with PSG Polytechnic for training students in telecom skills. Telecom sector is expected to create 8.6 million jobs by 2022.

Health Sector: Under the MoU CallHealth Academy will provide doorstep healthcare services to the patients. The youth that will be trained with various industry and government bodies so that the unemployed youth can be made employed in the healthcare sector.

Apparel Training: ATDC has signed a MoU with the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM) to train around 8,000 unemployed youth in the next three years by offering 24 courses.

Security Sector Skill Development Council (SSSDC) conducted the 2-day event “Security Skills and Leadership Summit – Kushal Rakshak, Surakshit Bharat”. The event saw huge participation from the security service companies, training partners, government bodies and trained security personnel.

News from the government

MSDE to collaborate with EON Reality, a US-based company for skilling in high-end machines through augmented reality and virtual reality. Estimated investment is of $20 million, out of which EON Reality will contribute $14 million while the government will spend $6 million to start the first centre by next year.

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) will open offices in 12 cities to support skill development at regional levels. The cities include: Guwahati, Patna, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Ranchi, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Mumbai, Jaipur, Chennai, Hyderabad and Lucknow.

MSDE launches launches Pradhan Mantri Yuva Yojana to boost entrepreneurship among youth. The scheme spans over five years (2016-17 to 2020-21) with a project cost of Rs 499.94 crore, and will provide entrepreneurship education and training to over 7 lakh students in 5 years through 3,050 institutes.

The Ministry of Shipping has sanctioned Rupees 10 Crore as part of the first instalment to the Gujarat Maritime Board for capacity building and safety training of 20,000 workers .

  • DIDAC India and DIDAC Skills 2025 begins tomorrow!

Asia’s largest and India’s only exhibition and conference for the education and skills sector is all set to open its 15th edition at Yashobhoomi (IICC), Dwarka, New Delhi.
