Top highlights in skill education in India

Team NSN organized a webinar on “Mainstreaming Vocational Education – A Tool for Sustainability” on 5th July 2024. This webinar will delve into how NEP 2020 advocates for the integration of vocational education into mainstream curriculum, highlighting its role in promoting sustainable development and industry-ready skills.

Updates from the MSDE, NSDC, NCVET, UGC

  • NCVET held a Capacity Building Workshop for Awarding Bodies, focusing on NSQF alignment of qualifications to strengthen the skilling ecosystem, with active participation from open universities and State Development Missions nationwide.
  • Shri Jayant Chaudhary highlighted the role of digital infrastructure and collaborative learning at the SKILLS Bridge Masterclass on the AI-powered Skill India Digital Hub, organized by NSDC, ILO, World Bank, and UNESCO, with 3,000 participants.
  • MSDE to launch PMKVY projects to support the Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and National Green Hydrogen Mission, with accelerated implementation plans reviewed by the PMKVY 4.0 Executive Committee.
  • MSDE is drafting a new policy with BCG to replace the 2015 National Policy on Skill Development, aiming to align with new-age skills and make India the skills capital of the world.
  • Coca-Cola India and NSDC are reshaping Odisha’s retail landscape with the Super Power Retailer Program, empowering over 14,000 retailers, including women, in seven months.

Stakeholder collaboration – Industry, Academia and Government

  • The Government of Kerala inaugurated four-year undergraduate programmes, emphasizing their alignment with global education trends and focus on knowledge, skills, vocational training, research, and employability.
  • The Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) launched “Nayi Raah” in Bangalore, aiming to train 250 underprivileged individuals as Electric Vehicle Service Technicians, funded by Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).
  • Department of Technical Education, Skill Development, and Employment, Madhya Pradesh is launching a heritage skill course merging Gond art and Baiga saree weaving, partnering with Gond artists and NRLM for training at Mawai ITI, Mandla.
  • Bharat Coking Coal Limited has partnered with Pramith Foundation Kolkata to train 150 youth in BFSI-Credit Processing Officer skills, enhancing financial services capabilities in Dhanbad.
  • CIIIT Jammu at Government Polytechnic Bikram Chowk signs MoU with Amass Skill Ventures to enhance student employability and facilitate collaborative programs with Indian and Japanese firms.
  • CII and PeopleStrong Academy sign MoU to offer comprehensive HR Tech courses aligned with NSQF, enhancing industry-relevant skills across India and the Middle East for students, professors, and HR professionals.
  • Dalmia Bharat Foundation has introduced Domestic Data Entry Operator course at CSL in Lumshnong, Meghalaya, empowering youth through skill development.
  • C.V. Raman Global University has partnered with Bajaj Auto Ltd. to establish the BEST Centre, enhancing practical skills and employability in Bhubaneswar.
  • The Maharashtra Legislative Council unanimously approved a bill extending the Chancellor’s tenure at State Skill University to three years.
  • ITI Indore has introduced new hospitality courses under the Dual System of Training Scheme, focusing on roles in front office and food and beverage sectors.
  • The National Fisheries Development Board, in collaboration with Shishoi Oshim-ETF and the Department of Fisheries and AR, organized a three-day training on “Fish Preservation and Value Addition” for women’s empowerment in Wokha.

Skilling and Upskilling in Emerging Technologies

  • Infosys Foundation and ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu collaborate to skill 48,000 students over three years in IT, banking, financial services, insurance, and other sectors.
