Top highlights in skill education in India

  • West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education has announced changes to the class 12 curriculum for 2024-25 by introducing three new vocational subjects to meet current demands.
  • NCERT released bridge course guidelines to address learning gaps and facilitate smooth transition, urging schools to introduce new syllabus and textbooks aligned with the new national curriculum framework in classes 3 and 6.
  • Australia-India Summit to boost future skills collaboration with a 33-member delegation focusing on digital tech, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
  • CBSE initiated a pilot for the National Credit Framework (NCrF) in classes 6, 9, and 11 starting this academic year, and invited its affiliated schools to take part.

Updates from the MSDE, NSDC, NCVET

  • The Ministry of Education approved a ₹1,275 crore budget for Punjab’s school education in 2024-25 under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, highlighting teacher vacancies and infrastructure gaps in government schools.
  • NSDC International and BFUHS have signed an MoU to upskill healthcare workers for global employment needs, focusing on training nurses for international jobs.

Stakeholder collaboration – Industry, Academia and Government

  • Credo Centre of Excellence, in collaboration with the Apparel Skill Council, has inaugurated the first fashion incubation center in Kolkata, aiming to bolster West Bengal’s Rs 40,000 crore textile industry.
  • I2CAN is offering diverse courses in Cosmetology, Trichology, Aesthetic Medicine, and Nutrition for both medical and non-medical students; with ISO and IAF certifications, and affiliations with NSDC and Skill India.
  • ENGIE hosted a job fair in Bikaner, Rajasthan, focusing on felicitating students trained as Solar PV Installers. The initiative reflected ENGIE India’s commitment to fostering skilled workforce and promoting sustainable energy.
  • The valedictory ceremony at IIM Jammu concluded the enriching Capacity Building Program Fourth Batch. The program provided a holistic learning experience aimed at empowering individuals to excel in their respective fields.
  • The Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board has commenced the enrollment process for ITIs, providing over 32,000 seats across 111 institutes in the state. Applications are accepted from April 7 to May 5, 2024.
  • thingQbator, a Cisco CSR initiative in partnership with Nasscom Foundation, celebrated ten winning startups from its 6th Cohort at the Neovation ceremony, boosting student entrepreneurship and tech-skills in India.

Skilling and Upskilling in Emerging Technologies

  • CBSE to introduce skill subjects in AI, data science and more in the school curriculum, offering class 11 students a choice of around 43 elective subjects alongside their main courses.

    There seems to be no clarity with the curriculum framework still not defined for the skill subjects, additional subjects for class xi and also the qualification requirements for facilitating recruitment of Teachers
