Skill development news from the government

  • In the Union Budget 2022, the finance minister has announced plans to start a Digital University and now, the Ministry of Education and different stakeholders are working to go ahead with the initiative.
  • To focus on doubling the number of apprentices in India from  0.5 million to 1.0 million by the end of 2022, the government has simplified half-a-dozen procedures for India Inc to incentivise them and take on apprenticeship training.
  • The two-day mega event was inaugurated on 4th March, 2022 at The Lalit, New Delhi by MSME. In the event, RCPSDC has unveiled a pavilion on the skilling schemes in the Plastics sector at the International Summit 2022 on Plastic Recycling and Waste Management in collaboration with AIPMA.

  • Aiming to curb the unconscious gender bias happening with girls in our society, leading skincare brand Olay launched a STEM scholarship program for girls in partnership with LEAD, India’s foremost School EdTech player.
  • The Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) has signed an MoU with Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU), the New Delhi based skill varsity to collaborate to leverage capabilities around skilling and placement. Read more…
  • Pearson, the world’s leading learning company has partnered with Apollo MedSkills, the educational arm of Apollo Hospitals with an aim to develop effective skilling programmes. The partnership is also aiming to train solutions for strengthening the healthcare sector in India and globally.
  • As the relevance of soft skills is increasing day by day in organizations, the hospitality industry is planning to acquire soft skills in a more implicit manner to enable a long-lasting bond between customers and the brand.
  • To train the rural community and provide them with necessary resources for entrepreneurship which will pave the way for building Aatmanirbhar Bharat, NIESBUD has signed an MoU with MoRD to implement SVEP. Read more…
  • MIET is focusing on nurturing entrepreneurship in the North-East. A target has been set up to skill 1.65 lakh people and create at least 25 start-ups in the NE region under the North East Capacity Building (NECB) project.

  • The affiliated colleges in India will become multi-disciplinary autonomous institutions by 2035 with the NEP 2020, according to the draft UGC guidelines. The draft UGC guidelines has mentioned three types of multidisciplinary institutions such as research-intensive universities, teaching-intensive universities, and degree-awarding autonomous colleges.
  • NMC has allowed the FMGs to complete their 12-month internship in India who have returned from Ukraine.
  • With an aim to benefit teachers in AI, Mumbai-based EdTech start-up PurpleTutor has launched artificial intelligence-driven live classes. The prime purpose is to bridge the gap between quality delivery of education by teachers and engagement of students.

Skill development news from the states

  • Delhi – The deputy chief minister, Manish Sisodia has announced that the Delhi government is working to set up quality labs at their ITI. He inaugurated a new academic block with state-of-the-art  infrastructure, a cosmetology lab and a modern plumbing lab.
  • Karnataka – Focusing to bridge the employment gap for the job seekers in Karnataka by providing them with career-based learning and recruitment opportunities, ESSCI has signed an MoU with KSDC.
  • Punjab – A seven-day workshop for skill development for the non-faculty members was conducted on Punjabi typing, student data maintenance, MS Office and form 16 and TDS by the Computer Science department of Kamla Nehru College for Women.
  • Tamil Nadu – Aiming to make all students and youth stand out in educational skills, knowledge and talent, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has launched a skill development scheme ‘Naan Muthalvan’ (I am first) which was his dream scheme.
  • Telangana – The newly elected Chairman of CII Telangana State Council, Alpla Group in India Partner and Managing Director, Vagish Dixit said that efforts will be taken to focus on skill development initiatives for youth.
