Skill development news from the government, industry and academia

MSDE collaborates with DSDE to set up an International Skill Hub in Goa: NSDC, operating under the aegis of MSDE has collaborated with Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (DSDE), Government of Goa to set up an International Skill Hub in the state. The Skill Hub aims to empower youth of Goa to be ready for the emerging job opportunities in the country. Read more…

Ministry of Education launches UGC guidelines for Higher Education Institutions: The Ministry of Education launched UGC guidelines for Higher Education Institutions to offer apprenticeship/internship embedded degree programmes. The ministry is going to prioritize employment generation coupled with improving the employability of the youth.

Skill development centre by HAL-IISc: HAL collaborated with IISC to set up a skill development centre. The centre has been established at IISc’s Challakere campus in Chitradurga. The skill development centre will impart skills to local community members and high-end engineering professionals.

Xiaomi India to donate smartphones worth Rs. 2 crores for students: Xiaomi India is going to donate 2500 new smartphones worth Rs 2 crore to help needy children in India to continue their education. The company has partnered with Teach For India, to ensure that the children can avail these smartphones for online learning and education. The partnership aims to ensure that these brand-new smartphones can be used by children to access online classes, ensuring continuity in their education.

ASDC partners pManifold to launch online training and certification program: ASDC has partnered with pManifold to launch a first ever online training and certification program on model-based development of Electric Vehicles. The first batch of the program titled ‘EV Systems Engineering’ will start from 17th of August, 2020.

BMA partners Calderys to build a skill development centre: BMA has partnered with Calderys to build a training cum skill development centre which be known as BMA Centre of Excellence and will impart training to local youths in different vocational skills required by industries. BMA will start two training programs one is Basic Metal Welding course for beginners and second is application of refractory bricks and its installation to various user industries. 

Weekly news bytes700 Usha Swavalamban Silai Schools to be set up across to skill women to become ‘homepreneurs’: Usha in partnership with SIDBI is going to set up 700 Usha Swavalamban Silai Schools in some of the Government of India shortlisted aspirational districts / calamity prone areas in Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh East, and Uttarakhand. The partnership aims to skill rural women in sewing and stitching to financially empower them. 

Skill development news from the states

Andhra Pradesh

Industrial Policy 2020 by Andhra Pradesh government: The government of Andhra Pradesh has unveiled the “Industrial Development Policy 2020-23”. The new policy lays emphasis on balancing growth across regions and communities and is focused on reducing the cost of doing business and helping MSMEs achieve scale and improve competitiveness.

Goa

Online vocational training program for farmers by ICAR Goa: ICAR-CCAI organized a five-day online vocational training program on the scientific management of goats. A total of 28 participants from different parts of Goa attended the training. E-certificates were issued after the completion of the programme. 

German dual vocational education and training in 10 ITIs: The government of Goa has signed a tripartite agreement to carry out German dual vocational education and training in the 10 ITIs of the state. The MoU was signed virtually among the Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Siemens Limited, and the German-headquartered GIZ.

Madhya Pradesh

10000 rise schools to be equipped with e-books, skill centres: Madhya Pradesh’s school education department has completed the work on the new education policy of the state as per South Korea education model, will now merge it with the NEP. The 10,000 government schools will be upgraded as Rise schools and will be equipped with all advanced technology including e-books, interactive boards, projectors, skill centres, art classes and other advanced infrastructure in one year.

Maharashtra

Maharashtra government to train locals to fill in the skill gap due to migration: The government of Maharashtra is going to train the local workforce to bridge the skill gap due to mass migration. The state is looking forward to employing locally available skilled workforce with industry on an urgent basis through portals like ‘SWAYAM’.

Odisha

ITI girls get employed in German firm’s Chennai unit: At least 60 students, including 17 girls of the government-run ITIs in Berhampur have bagged jobs at a Germany-based oil shield company’s Chennai unit and already started working. In the first year of the training period, each student will get around Rs 14,000 per month along with accommodation, subsidised food and other facilities. 

Punjab

PAU launches a resilience resource “I the farmer of India”:  PAU has launched a resilience resource called “I the farmer of India” for the farmers of the country. The resource aims to build respect for farmers in the society and asserts that farming is the most noble, the most useful, the most mindful and the most healthful profession.

Tamil Nadu

Government ITIs to offer courses that cater to market skills: The government ITIs in Tamil Nadu are going to offer courses which will cater to the industry needs. These aspirational demand-driven courses will ensure immediate job opportunities for the students. The government has allocated 4.38 crore to revamp the existing courses with those that fulfill students’ aspirations.

Uttarakhand

The Hans Foundation launches development schemes worth Rs. 100 crores: The Hans Foundation has launched development schemes in Uttarakhand worth Rs. 100 crores to set up skill development and COVID-19 testing centres. The Foundation has supported the Government of Uttarakhand in providing necessary support in the form of ration kits, medical support and PPE kits worth INR 1 crore and 51 lacs.
