Skill development news from the government

MSDE to introduce 500 skill hubs for schools across India: MSDE is going to introduce 500 skill hubs and labs in government schools. MSDE came up with a unique concept of Hubs of Excellence in skills for school students.

New division to be set up with a focus on technology diplomacy: A new division called New, Emerging and Strategic Technologies (NEST) division by the Ministry of External Affairs. This will act as the nodal division within MEA for collaboration with foreign partners in 5G and artificial intelligence.

Talent search in vocational skills  for WorldSkills Shanghai 2021: Talent search for WorldSkills Shanghai 2021 has begun. TNSDC has enrolled more than 25,000 students. The district level competition will happen to identify the best talent in vocational skills to represent the country in WorldSkills.  

MSME to have huge contribution to GDP by 2024: MSME is going to contribute $2 trillion to GDP. Under PMEGP programme, 65,312 new micro enterprises were set up and 5,22,496 employment opportunities generated and a margin money subsidy worth ₹1929.83 crore was utilised.

Chandigarh Group of Colleges partners with NASSCOM: Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran have signed an MoU with NASSCOM to increase the employability of the students. The MoU will facilitate the development and will introduce QP based training programs for engineering students.

Fedco partners with PSSC to train industry workforce: In a bid to meet the current and future skills needs of power industry, Fedco has partnered with PSSC for skill development across the country. It also launched Fedco Power Centre of Excellence to offer technical and soft skills training programme for power sector workforce.

Spark Minda empowers 1000 PwDs: Under their CSR initiative “Saksham – Empowerment of Persons with Disability Camp”, Spark Minda Foundation has organised a 7 day empowerment of PwDs camp in Pune.It empowered nearly 1000 PwDs.

Wipro partners with NASSCOM to skill Indian students in AI: In collaboration with NASSCOM, Wipro will be setting up a platform to train students in emerging technologies — artificial intelligence (AI), data science, internet of things (IoT) and cyber securities. The platform will train 10k students from over 20 engineering colleges in India.

TeamLease Skills launches apprenticeship outlook report: TeamLease Skills launched “the Apprenticeship Outlook and Index’, a detailed six month forecast on apprenticeship hiring trends in India. According to the report, the FMCG/D industry is inclined to hire 45% of apprentices.

Haryana

Industry meet inaugurated at SVSU: Industry Meet ceremony at Shri Vishwakarma Skill Development University was inaugurated by Haryana Skill Development and Industrial Training Minister Mool Chand Sharma, in Dudhola of Palwal district. SVSU is the first university in the country that has been preparing skilled professionals in the profession of a plumber to electrician.

Jammu and Kashmir

Army conducts “Welding Course” for youth: Army conducted “Welding Course” as part of skill India initiative to train unemployed youth in Jammu and Kashmir. This will facilitate the youth of the region to meet the future challenges.

Indian Bank collaborates with WEWA: Indian Bank has partnered with WEWA to offer training and credit linkage to women entrepreneurs of the association for establishing business. The members would get support for loans at special discounted rates.

Telangana

Telangana government declares 2020 as the ‘Year of AI’: Telangana government declared the year 2020 as the ‘Year of AI’ and signed MoUs with various companies in the field of Artificial Intelligence. It has begun several initiatives on artificial intelligence (AI) and information technology (IT).

Uttar Pradesh

MSDE launches Saamarth in UP: MSDE launched a mega drive Saamarth to re-skill and certify 40,000 tyre-mechanics from Uttar Pradesh. The programme was launched under Saamarth and witnessed 18 Mobile Skill Vans have been pressed into service to take upskilling to auto mechanics.

300 vacancies for apprentice posts in BHEL: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Jhansi has 300 vacancies for the post of Trade Apprentice and Technician/Graduate Apprentice. Eligible and interested candidates can apply for the post on the official website apprenticeship.gov.in on or before 20 January 2020.

Registration for IndiaSkills Kerala 2020 witnesses huge response: Registration for IndiaSkill Kerala 2020 has witnessed huge response from youngsters across the state and it has 12000 entries. The registration has been organized by the Industrial Training Department (ITD) and  Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE).

By 2025, skill-based online games to grow over 3.5x: Skill-based online games like RummyCircle is going to grow over 3.5x by the year 2025. It is a digital avatar of a childhood card game that has long remained one of the most popular games in India. 

New age technologies to become the success factor: New age technologies like AI, robotics, additive manufacturing and machine learning are already in demand and is going to be a success factor. According to Vinnie Mehta, director general, Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA), “At seven percent of the national GDP, the Indian automotive industry is not only a significant contributor to our economy, but it also provides employment to over eight million people. Of this total, the component sector alone contributes to the creation of five million jobs.”
