Skill development news from the industry

India to accelerate its Artificial Intelligence skilling: Amazon Web Services (AWS) partnered with Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur To build National Artificial Intelligence Resource Portal to skill India in AI.

BPCL provided funding to open Skill Development Centers at Ramakrishna Mission Home:  A skill development centre (SDC) was launched at Ramakrishna Mission Home at Mylapore on Sunday. The SDC will impart technical training to students of Ramakrishna Mission Polytechnic College.

Internship is the first choice of 84% Indian students: As per a report, 84% Indian students prefer Internship. However, only 37 percent of organisations provide such opportunities to students to sharpen their skills before they become permanent employees.

News from the government

Kaushalacharya Awards were given to 53 trainers on Teachers Day: On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, a total of 53 trainers from diverse backgrounds, including trainers from national skill training institutes, industrial training institutes and others were honoured with Kaushalacharya Awards by Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

Tulaganov Ruslan Kuchkarovich signed MoU with NSDC and Manav Rachna Institute: Manish Kumar, MD & CEO of NSDC and Amit Bhalla signed MoU with Tulaganov Ruslan Kuchkarovich, a global evangelist in the presence of Presidents, Prime Ministers and Heads of five countries (India, Russia, Japan, Malaysia and Magnolia).

WorldSkills Champion Shweta Ratanpura created history: Shweta Ratanpura is the first-ever Indian woman to win a bronze medal at WorldSkills competition 2019 which was held in Kazan, Russia. India won 4 medals including one Gold, one Silver and two Bronze.

3 months computer training course has been launched by Army to bring IT literacy among youths: Rashtriya Rifles (RR) located at Bhadarwah started 3 months basic computer course for 50 students. The course aims to promote IT literacy among youths, especially girl students of District Doda and to promote Skill India initiative.

Skill development news from the states

Assam

A 7-day training programme on mushroom cultivation was held in Tinsukia: A 7-day skill training programme for rural youths on ‘Mushroom cultivation for self-employment’ concluded at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tinsukia. The skill training was held under Assam Agricultural University.

Numali Club launched project SAVERI: Project SAVERI was launched under NRL’s CSR program in Numaligarh. The project is directed towards the benefit of the children and women of neighboring areas.

Jammu and Kashmir

SKUAST-J signs MoU with ASCI: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Agriculture Skill Council of India (ASCI) for affiliation of skill development trainings in Jammu region.

Maharashtra

65 students at Bosco Gramin Vikash Kendra got funding for English language course: To teach youth English language lessons, Salesian Missions funded a project at Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra, located in Maharashtra, India.

Nagaland

Skill implementation to be done in Nagaland’s Kiphire district: A high level discussion was held to address the challenges faced by Kiphire district in implementing skill programs. The discussion highlighted the importance of skill development at the grassroot level.

Odisha

Odisha Government to enhance skill development in the state in collaboration with Singapore: Odisha engages Singapore to enhance skill development in the state. A proposal was given to invite 100 Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students from Singapore to intern in the State of Odisha.

Polytechnic teachers should be included in Singapore exchange programme: Around 100 teachers from different Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) of Odisha have received TVET from the Singapore-based institute. The Government of Odisha proposes inclusion of the teachers in the exchange program.

Punjab

One lakh government vacancies to be filled in Punjab: 5th Mega Job Fairs have been organised by the Punjab Government from 9th to 30th September, 2019 offering 2.10 lakh job vacancies in the private sector. These Job Fairs would be held in every district at total 82 venues across in which 1819 companies would be offering jobs.

Other news

Government Jobs top the list of first time job seekers: 92% Indian youth are unaware of online placement services according to a survey conducted by a non-profit organisation. It also found that Government jobs rank highest among the first-time job seekers.
