The 11th workshop of the Skill Connect Road Show was held in Hyderabad on 18th September 2018.Coordinated by National Skill Development Council (NSDC), Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the event in Hyderabad received an encouraging response from industry and sector skill councils, training partners and others, who participated in the dialogue on implementing the Apprenticeship Training in the industry. The workshop registered around 140 participants.

Mr Sanjay Singh, Chairman, CII Telangana and Chief Executive, ITC, PSPD, in his welcome speech, highlighted the importance of skilling the youth as the key to the national development. Addressing the issue of the large influx of inexperienced candidates in the industry and non-availability of desired skill sets, he underlined the importance of Skill Connect roadshows as a path-breaking step towards raising awareness on the apprenticeship training as well as the role of private sector companies in the training and in balancing the demand and supply of skilled workforce.

SkillConnect HyderabadMr Nagesh, DGT shared the collective efforts of the State in skilling youth.  By sharing the data on the number of Apprentices currently being trained at the various industries in the State, he appealed the participants to make a sustainable society by training the youth of the country.

Mr Nayakar Reddy, Head, Technical Training, Dr Reddy’s, shared that Dr Reddy’s has been the frontrunner in hiring Apprentices in Telangana.  Sharing his experiences, he said that quality and committed training of the youth leads to loyalty of the apprentices and a low attrition rate.

CII presented its 360-degree assistance in the Indian industrial ecosystem and offered to support the industries through handholding, providing a help desk and addressing both the demand and the supply side with respect to the Apprentices by systematic identification through Model Career Centre, which have been established to overcome the limitations of the Employment Exchange.

By means of interactive session, the participants were invited to deliberate on the inputs provided by NSDC, CII and GIZ. The results of the group discussions were shared in plenary, which included the job roles which are required by the companies including the number of apprentices against each of these job roles; the support which is required for enabling the companies for effective participation in apprenticeship programme and the challenges they are currently facing.

The next workshop under the Skill Connect Road Show will take place on September 20 in Jaipur.

  • Technical skills may get you into a workplace. But what helps you navigate it?That was the conversation we explored last week at NSTI Women, Hyderabad, during our session on the human side of employability with the young CTS students. The students participated with enthusiasm and curiosity. A big thank you to Deputy Director Ms. Arulselvi for the warm welcome and for taking us through the institute.Walking through the practical classrooms and interacting with students and faculty gave us an immersive glimpse into the learning happening across areas such as Cosmetology, Architectural Draughtsman, Fashion Design Technology and AI & IoT.As we moved from one classroom to another, it was interesting to see the students and faculty at work and hear about their project goals and experiences. It also reinforced something we often talk about at NSN, technical learning and transferable skills cannot really be separated when we talk about employability. We left with plenty to think about, and hopefully, the students did too.#technicaltraining #employability #iti #skills #education #technology #ai
