Centre for Skilling & Technical Support (CSTS) inaugurated and Foundation Stone laid for new CIPET Building at Dehradun

The Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers and Parliamentary Affairs Mr AnanthKumar, inaugurated the CIPET: Centre for Skilling & Technical Support (CSTS) at ITI Building and laid the foundation stone for the new Central Institute of Plastics Engineering &Technology (CIPET) Building at Doiwala in Dehradun. Other dignitaries present were Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Union Minister of State for Planning (IC) and Chemicals & Fertilizers,  and Member of Parliament, Haridwar, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank etc. CIPET currently operates from 31 locations spread across the country and this new centre in Dehradun will be the 32nd one.
  • About 2.42 lakh people across the country were trained by CIPET in 2014 -18
  • The new CIPET Centre at Doiwala will train around 1000 students in the first year of its operation.
About 1000 students will be trained at the Doiwala centre in the first year with a variety of skill development training programmes and later also Diploma level programmes. The number of students is expected to increase slowly and reach up to 2000 by the third year. In Uttarakhand there are some plastics industries already at places like Roorkee, Dehradun, Rudrapur etc. Those aspiring to become entrepreneurs will benefit a lot through the technology support services and skilled youth from the new CIPET facility.
The total project cost for the CIPET: CSTS at Dehradun is Rs. 51.32 crore which is funded by the  Government of India and Government of Uttarakhand on a 50:50 basis. Currently the centre will start operating from the existing refurbished ITI building in Doiwala and a new building will be constructed adjacent to it on a 10 acres land which is in the process of of being allotted to CIPET.

CIPET, under the Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, offers courses in Diploma, Post Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma, Undergraduate, Post Graduate & Doctoral programmes in the complete gamut of plastics engineering and technology. CIPET has also set up two Schools for Advanced Research in Polymers (SARP) – Advanced Research School for Technology & Product Simulation (ARSTPS) & Laboratory for Advanced Research in Polymeric Materials (LARPM). These SARPs  focus completely on application oriented sponsored research projects in the areas of Polymer Science & Technology.
Industry estimates show that around 12 lakh direct technical manpower are employed in the plastics processing industries. In Addition  11 lakh manpower is required in next 8-10 years as per estimates. Supporting the Government of India’s vision of ‘Skill India’, CIPET has contributed significantly in generating skilled people for the plastics & allied industries. During the last four years 2014 -18, CIPET has trained around 2.42 lakh manpower through long-term and short-term skill development courses and has an ambitious target of achieving 6.2 lakhs by the end of the year 2022.
Having a strong alumni base of about 1,00,000 Professionals, CIPET has emerged is now an Apex plastics technology institution, not only just in the country but also in Asia. It’s Alumni network spreads across the globe. It is fully devoted to ‘STAR” – Skill Development, Technology Support Services, Academic and Research in all the domains of Plastics Engineering & Technology, including Design, CAD/CAM/CAE, Tooling, Processing and Testing, and Quality Control for the growth of Plastics & allied industries. To meet the demands of the industry, nine more CIPET centres are going to be implemented at Medak, Jaipur, Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, Varanasi, Agartala, Chandrapur and Mumbai.
All key sectors of Indian economy like Agriculture, Automobiles, Aerospace, Building & Construction, Information Technology, Electrical & Electronics, Telecommunications, Defence, Medical, FMCG etc. are using the Technology Support Services provided by CIPET and through this CIPET is contributing towards ‘Make in India’ initiative.
CIPET is also supporting the SWACCH BHARAT ABHIYAN by organizing awareness programmes and seminars on plastics recycling & waste management, research and developmental activities for providingt cost effective environmental solutions for managing the plastics waste. As a part of their CSR initiative, CIPET has constructed 25 toilets across the country for the benefit of the girl children.
CIPET is also leading the implementation of DIGITAL INDIA initiative by establishing Video Conferencing Facilities, Wi-Fi connectivity at their Campus, Digital Library and introduction of e-Learning programs for helping the student fraternity and the plastic industries.
