Following are the skill-based training updates and related initiatives from various states and industry sectors:

Bihar: The government has set a target of preparing one crore skilled youth by the end of 2020 in the state.

Delhi: Bhartiya Skill Development University (BSDU), Jaipur announced an MoU with Forsk Technologies, to assist BSDU as knowledge partner, to develop, promote and deliver M.Voc. program in embedded systems & IoT skills and B.Voc. Program in Machine learning and AI skills which are both due to start in July 2018.

Gujarat: The Skill Development Institute (SDI) Ahmedabad, promoted by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in association with other oil PSUs, has secured 100% placement for its very first batch of 90 students. The students were trained in three different trades- Fitter Fabrication, Industrial Welding and Technician (Production).

Haryana: 1. Haryana Government aims to engage 25,000 apprentices by September 2019. So far, about 3,500 establishments have been registered thus generating 22,500 seats of apprenticeship and about 14,000 have been engaged against these seats. 2. Haryana government to impart skill training to 1.15 lakh youths. In addition, 22 Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) would be upgraded.

Jammu: J&K Skill Development Mission (JKSDM), under India Skills Competition- J&K, 2018 initiated cluster level skill competitions at Jammu & Srinagar for preparing candidates in representing the country at the World Skills Competition-Russia, 2019.

Jharkhand: Jharkhand government to provide jobs to 100000 skilled youth by training them and making them employable, leading to qualitative changes in their living and prosperity of the state.

  • Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) has been awarded with ISO 29990:2010 and ISO 9001:2015 dual certification by the Bureau Veritas, a certification body accredited by the National Accreditation Board.
  • Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), will provide entrepreneurship support to over 7,000 youth in 40 aspirational districts (out of total 115 districts identified by Govt. Of India) under the aegis of Department of Science & Technology (DST), National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB)
  • Cabinet approves restructured National Bamboo Mission: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National Bamboo Mission (NBM) under National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA) to ensure holistic development of the bamboo sector. 
  • UAE – India partnership on skills development and certification will help India to align skill development and certification with UAE’s requirements for Indian workers coming to the UAE. 
  • Mettl Partners with NSDC to innovate Assessment Technology and aims to conduct scalable real-time assessments using AI-enabled remote proctoring technology.

Kerala: 1. The Kerala government will set up a ‘Skill Lyceum’ of global standards to foster fresh ventures, innovative ideas and research in skill development. 2. AICTE has asked engineering colleges to consider options such as a switchover to polytechnics, skill development centres or vocational institutes since closure of college is not an easy option.

Rajasthan: JCB is providing education and employable skills to communities near its Jaipur plant through the Lady Bamford Charitable Trust. It also extends support to 54 Government schools and nine vocational training centres around its five factories in Delhi-NCR, Pune and Jaipur, which benefits about 16,000 students and trainees.

Madhya Pradesh: To encourage skill development programs for the driver community, the Eicher Group Foundation, the CSR arm of the Eicher Group, inaugurated its first-ever Eicher Academy for Drivers at Indore.

Maharashtra: To create skilled manpower in the automobile industry, the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) will soon establish a joint training institute for skill development. Being at a very nascent stage, talks are underway regarding affiliation with the institute and apex bodies in India and Germany, stated IGCC director Bernhard Steinruecke.

Odisha: 1. Companies spent Rs 16.51 billion towards CSR works in Odisha with Education and Skill Development, Rural Development and Health Care receiving the maximum allocations. 2. ‘Skilled in Odisha’ is on its way to earn a global tag with the state government considering a tie-up with iconic designer and widely acclaimed innovation leader Tim Kobe. 3.AISECT has partnered with Maulana Azad National Academy for Skills (MANAS) to train minority community youth in Odisha.

Punjab: Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) and Oracle Academy, have signed an agreement to train 45,000 students in 150 institutions across Punjab.

Tamil Nadu: NSDC signed an MoU with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) to provide skill training to 500 youth and women at Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu.

Telangana: Global job site Indeed announced its collaboration with the Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) to support skill development of the youth in Telangana and improve employability in the state.
