In this edition of weekly Newsbytes from NSN, we bring you the latest highlights, updates, and partnerships shaping the future of skill development and education in India.

India’s skilling and education ecosystem continues to evolve with impactful initiatives focused on inclusion, innovation, and industry alignment. This week, key developments include the upcoming IVETA-NSN webinar on the emerging TVET landscape in India, and MSDE’s announcement of two new Skill Centres at NSTIs in Hyderabad and Chennai. In a move toward inclusive education, DEPwD has partnered with NIOS and NCERT to support children with disabilities, in alignment with NEP 2020.

Other highlights include the launch of AICTE’s Industry Fellowship Programme for technical faculty, Delhi University’s JAIHIND scheme for tribal students, and Kurukshetra University’s MoU to boost apprenticeship training under NATS. These initiatives, along with developments in CSR, AI-based career coaching, and state-level training programs, mark significant progress toward building a skilled, future-ready workforce.

IVETA Webinar: Emerging TVET Landscape in India | Register now!

Skill development updates from the government

  • MSDE has released a draft of the revised National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship 2025, proposing initiatives like Skill Mudra and Impact Bond 2.0 to boost skilling and employability.
  • MSDE organised the Kaushal Manthan Regional Workshop at Kanha Shanti Vanam, Hyderabad and announced the establishment of two new Skill Centres at NSTIs in Hyderabad and Chennai. Read more…
  • The Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Department in Arunachal Pradesh has launched a weeklong finishing course for ITI graduates to boost employability through training in soft skills, digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and job readiness.
  • The Sikkim Fisheries Department held a stakeholder meeting on developing an organic fisheries cluster in Soreng district, with participation from NABARD, SOFDA, ICAR, and other key officials.
  • The Ministry of Rural Development inaugurated Garuda Aerospace’s Agri-Drone Indigenization Facility in Chennai, launched 300 Centres of Excellence, and DGCA-approved trainer programme, highlighting India’s push toward self-reliance in drone technology.
  • Telangana’s State Institute of Vocational Education (SIVE) has invited online applications for affiliation and additional sections for Short Term Vocational Certificate Courses (Fatafat Naukri Courses) for July–December 2025.

Skill development updates on CSR, Industry

  • Welspun Living Ltd has partnered with NSDC to launch a ₹4.25 crore skilling initiative in the textile sector, aiming to train 1,000 candidates with 50% women from underrepresented regions.
  • Dalmia Bharat Foundation and Red Carpet Learning Institute will train 300 women in Assam, West Bengal, and Jharkhand under the DIKSHa programme for industry-relevant jobs starting August 2025.
  • India’s first batch of nursing care workers trained by Sompo Care and NSDC will begin working in Japan next month, addressing labour shortages and caregiving.
  • Simplilearn has launched SimpliMentor GPT, an AI-powered career coach that offers personalized guidance for digital upskilling, helping users navigate learning paths, certifications, and career goals.
  • A 10-day vocational training programme for 80 Internally Displaced Persons began in Kangpokpi district, offering skills in electrical work, baking, food processing, and mushroom cultivation to promote sustainable livelihoods.
  • HCLFoundation has signed MoUs with the Tamil Nadu government to strengthen entrepreneurship and vocational education, including support for 100 startups through StartupTN over the next three years.
  • Prayoga Institute has partnered with SBI Foundation and SBI Funds to expand its Kriya initiative in 12 Raichur schools, enhancing science education through labs, curated courseware, and teacher mentoring under SBIF’s ‘Reimagining Science Education’ project.

Skilling and upskilling in academia and emerging technologies

  • AICTE has launched the Industry Fellowship Programme (AIFP) to immerse technical faculty in real-world industry settings, aiming to bridge the academia-industry gap and support the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision.
  • DEPwD has signed an agreement with NIOS and NCERT to promote inclusive education for children with disabilities, aligning with the goals of NEP 2020.
  • Delhi University has launched the JAIHIND scheme to empower school students through skill development and higher education readiness, starting with 25 students from Manipur’s Tangkhul Naga community.
  • Kurukshetra University has signed an MoU with the Board of Apprenticeship Training (Northern Region) to offer students apprenticeship training under the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS).
