Amid a fast-changing world, we often encounter certain cultural experiences that remind us of art’s enduring power. Vishwarang 2025, the seventh edition of the Tagore International Literature and Arts Festival, was one such experience; expansive, thoughtful and creatively alive. Hosted in its principal form from 27 to 30 November 2025 at Rabindra Bhavan, Bhopal, and preceded by international chapters in Sri Lanka and Mumbai, the festival further strengthened its position as one of India’s most significant global gatherings for literature, art and cultural dialogue.

Conceptualised by Mr. Santosh Choubey and organised by the Vishwarang Foundation and Rabindranath Tagore University, with support from the Department of Culture, Government of Madhya Pradesh, the festival brought together writers, artists, thinkers and youth from over 50 countries.

Vishwarang 2025 A Global Festival Connecting Art, Culture and Creative Skills

What makes Vishwarang remarkable is its clarity of purpose. It is not merely a stage for performances, but a space where art becomes inquiry, culture becomes conversation, and creativity becomes a skill for life. Across more than 100 sessions, including 12 parallel platforms, the festival explored literature, cinema, music, science communication, tribal knowledge systems and contemporary social questions. Whether one was listening to a poet unravel the emotional pulse of language, watching a folk dancer carry generations of memory, or engaging in discussions on artificial intelligence and human consciousness, Vishwarang invited audiences to see art as a way of understanding the world.

The festival was inaugurated in Bhopal by Honorable Governor of Madhya Pradesh Shri Mangubhai Patel, who described Vishwarang as a powerful cultural bridge between Indian traditions and contemporary global thought. The opening ceremony was graced by Former President of the Republic of Mauritius, Shri Prithviraj Singh Rupan, who highlighted Indian literature as a universal carrier of human values. The second day witnessed the presence of Honorable Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Dr. Mohan Yadav, who emphasised Bhopal’s emergence as a national and international centre of literary and cultural dialogue.

Vishwarang 2025 – A mosaic of art and cultural expression

Vishwarang’s signature strength lies in the diversity of its artistic landscape. Across its venues in Bhopal, Mumbai and Sri Lanka, the festival presented a carefully curated blend of heritage and contemporary expression. Regional and folk performances, from Malvi and Bundeli traditions to Bengali and Assamese music, shared space with classical forms like Dhrupad, while large-scale cultural productions such as Shri Krishna Leela and the grand theatrical presentation “Ahilya Rupen Sansthita” brought history and philosophy to life. Exhibitions and installations showcased archival narratives, indigenous traditions, visual art and creative documentation, making the festival an immersive cultural experience rather than a linear event.

Dialogues that explore today’s questions through art

At the heart of Vishwarang were its dialogues. Thought-provoking sessions examined themes such as “21st Century Questions: Literature, Society and Culture,” “New-Age Skills,” AI and language erosion, cinema and narrative ethics, mythology in contemporary discourse, and digital safety. These conversations featured prominent voices including Mr. Aakash Chopra, Mr. Ankur Warikoo, Mr. Swanand Kirkire, Ms. Sanya Malhotra, Mr. Devdutt Pattanaik, Ms. Divya Dutta, Mr. Faisal Malik, and leading writers like Ms. Mamta Kalia, Mr. Nilotpal Mrinal and Ms. Divya Prakash Dubey. The festival reaffirmed that art is not separate from lived realities; it shapes how societies interpret change.

Youth at the heart of creative exploration at Vishwarang 2025

Youth engagement remained central to Vishwarang’s vision. Workshops, open dialogues, creative labs and competitions, including the 7th Tagore International Painting Competition; encouraged students to see creativity as both expression and opportunity. Thousands of young participants engaged with literature, performance and technology, many encountering global artistic perspectives for the first time. Vishwarang thus functioned as a bridge between tradition and aspiration.

Where disciplines converge: The power of interdisciplinary art

One of Vishwarang’s most compelling aspects is its interdisciplinary design. Conversations on AI resonated with poetic explorations of identity, cinema discussions overlapped with social ethics, and tribal art sessions connected sustainability with global cultural discourse. Vishwarang does not separate literature, cinema or science; it treats creativity as a shared ecosystem of ideas.

Vishwarang 2025: Voices that shape the festival

The heartbeat of Vishwarang lies in its diverse voices. Alongside celebrated public figures were folk performers, tribal artists, scholars and international diaspora writers from Europe, North America, Southeast Asia and Africa. Their participation transformed Vishwarang into a living archive of global cultural exchange, rooted deeply in Indian linguistic and artistic traditions.

Vishwarang 2025 – A festival that connects geographies and perspectives

Vishwarang’s multi-location presence added a distinctive global character. Sri Lanka brought a South Asian multilingual dialogue, Mumbai contributed cinematic and urban creative energy, and Bhopal anchored the festival with its intellectual and cultural depth. Together, these geographies created a fluid cultural bridge across borders.

Why Vishwarang matters today

Vishwarang 2025 mattered not only for its scale; over 50,000 on-ground attendees and a digital reach exceeding 4.7 million people worldwide, but for its relevance. The festival demonstrated that art is learning, culture is conversation, and creativity is essential to the future.

A creative movement beyond the festival

The strength of Vishwarang lies not only in its programming but in the afterlife of its ideas; the discussions it sparks, the artistic curiosity it inspires, and the reflections it leaves behind. What remains is a renewed sense of how art can shape individuals and communities: not just as entertainment, but as a way of thinking, questioning, remembering and imagining the future.

Vishwarang reminds us that creativity is not a destination, but a journey; one that continues in every conversation, every idea, and every new way of imagining the world.
