As a phenomenal achievement since its inception in 2015,  Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI), a not-for-profit integrated technical training institute by Tata Power, enrolled its 50,000th trainee on 3rd June 2019. This is a significant milestone in TPSDI’s journey so far since its inception in 2015. The Institute was founded by Tata Power with the dual motive of bridging the skill gap in the Indian power sector and empowering youth and others with employable skills in the power, allied, and other sectors

The institute, in its first year, 2015, started with an enrollment of 208 trainees. Now within 4 years it has trained over 50,000 in employable skills. TPSDI which started with providing skilling programs for the blue-collared workforce and underprivileged sections of the society, today, has expanded to offer training in higher skills. TPSDI, now also offers courses to engineers and technicians from other organizations and Tata Power, as well as trains engineering college students, enabling them to gain skills that bridge the gap between academics and industry. TPSDI today offers over 150 courses across Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation, Renewables, Safety, Allied sectors, etc.

TPSDI, seeks to provide an easy access to market-driven and employment-oriented skills training and thus ensure a substantial set of skilled workforce for the Indian power sector.”

In FY19, TPSDI trained over 16,483 individuals across five training hubs in India – Shahad – Mumbai; Trombay – Mumbai in Maharashtra Mundra – Kutch, in Gujarat, Maithon – Dhanbad, and Jojobera – Jamshedpur in Jharkhand. Apart from its hubs, TPSDI through its spokes and outreach programs has trained at 46 locations across India and has even provided training abroad partnering the United States Energy Association (USEA) through United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to provide training in Ethiopia.
