WorldSkills Competition, is the benchmark for excellence in skills, showcasing the significance of skills and increasing the appreciation for skilled professionals around the world. It is held once every two years, and this year it was held decentralised over Europe, North America, and East Asia from September 3 to November 28, 2022. Teams from India took part in 12 countries and 20 cities.

India placed 11th in the WorldSkills Competition 2022 (WSC 2022), moving up from 13th in 2019, gaining 2 silver medals, 3 bronze medals, and 13 medals of excellence. This win indicates a rise in participation in competitions that encourage young people to pursue excellence and foster a passion for skills among youth, trainers, and other key stakeholders in the skill ecosystem.

The women competitors delivered an exceptional performance: Nandita Saxena took home a silver medal in the patisserie and confectionery industry, and Anushree Srinivasan got a bronze medal for her expertise in hotel service, plus two medals for excellence in hairdressing and health and social care. ITI-qualified participants also put on an impressive display by winning 2 bronze medals, one each in prototype modelling and Mechatronics skill. India won a Silver medal, maintaining its lead in the Water Technology skill, in addition to winning 2 Medallions for Excellence in Autobody repair and Automobile technology skill.

These participants showcased their skills across industries and in a variety of professional roles, including hotel receptionist, mechatronics, bakery, web technologies, and more. There were 50 skills represented in the participation, and teams of two participants were formed for six of the skills. 19% (11 competitors) of the 56 competitors were women, indicating that more female candidates are stepping forward and refining their skills through global training standards. Additionally, 20% (12 candidates) of the competitors had qualifications from Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).
