Networking, Automation, Digitization and Big Data are some of the most crucial technologies being leveraged by welding industries. Let’s understand why these technologies are fast becoming an integral part of welding processes.  This is mainly because, now and in the near future, individual production stages are no longer viewed in isolation, but as part of a whole.

Through data documentation and Big Data in welding, we will be able to find data from any source and analyze it. Welding data documentation combined with comprehensive analysis opportunities are decisive factors when it comes to a good production process. This is because only those who truly know their processes can optimize them in a targeted manner and avoid errors.

Big Data in welding technologies

No welding process or welding technology can be viewed in isolation with the other. Collecting the data, processing and analyzing it helps the end users detect the imperfections and errors in the processes from various units of production. This will help the companies make their machines, systems, and even their entire production lines more powerful and efficient. However, data analysis can be a tedious task for the companies and the users as such technology is not easily available to all the companies. Fronius’ Weldcube is one such example, which is developed to address this challenge of handling and analyzing the data from welding systems and processes.

How Big Data is becoming an integral part of welding technologies

5 ways in which Big Data can improve the welding processes

  1. Transparency – Collecting the data creates transparency and traceability of each component produced and of each individual step. This way Big Data in welding technologies helps one identify the errors and malfunctioning quickly and to act accordingly.
  2. Optimization – For every welding technology and welding processes, there is a high demand of not only highly welding speeds but also of minimal errors. This can be achieved by modern welding systems and continuous optimization of the welding processes which can be done based on the Big Data.
  3. Quality Management – Quality management is crucial for both the manufacturers and customers. Big Data helps us observe and monitor parameters like voltage, current, wire speed or welding speed and analyze them to see if the processes are with the defined tolerances and thereby ensuring quality.
  4. Transfer of data – Manual adjustments for saving and transfer of data may approximately take two hours on 15 welding systems. Whereas, through Big Data and related software, manufacturer will be able to transfer these data in less than five minutes and this data can be accessed by multiple employees in the organization on various platforms.
  5. Product improvements – Big Data allows product stability, makes way for cost-effective manufacturing, will help companies revert back to the customers quickly, and thereby significantly improving quality of the product and services.

Welding data documentation and analysis, in combination with other systems, is soon to become an indispensable tool of a modern, digitally networked company. Therefore, it is high time welding companies start documenting and analyzing the data. With Industry 4.0 and improved welding technologies, the Big Data in welding technologies will play a crucial role in making the systems efficient.
