Union Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas 2023 plenary session on ‘Enabling Global Mobility of Indian Workforce – Role of Indian Diaspora’ on January 10, 2023.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention is the flagship event of the Government of India. It offers a vital platform for interaction and connection with Indians living overseas, as well as for the diaspora to communicate with one another.

The 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention was held on January 8–10, 2023, in Indore, in collaboration with the Madhya Pradesh Government. The Diaspora: Reliable Partners for India’s Progress in Amrit Kaal is the focus of this PBD Convention. The PBD Convention has more than 3,500 registered members from 70 different countries.

Shri Dharmendra Pradhan said to the audience that “Our diaspora is a vital component of India’s civilization and has played an important role in its long journey.” He discussed the contribution of the diaspora in developing a new Indian paradigm for serving mankind as well as enhancing the capacity and mobility of India’s workforce.

Speaking on the NEP-2020 and a new approach to skill development, he stated that, “We are envisioning a flexible model with multiple entry-exit and skilling pathways that focuses on developing competencies.” He asserted that the Indian workforce is hardworking, honest, and responsible. India has the potential to become the world’s centre for a skilled workforce.

Shri Dharmendra Pradhan also mentioned how technology is creating new opportunities. “Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has put his faith in the dynamic Indian diaspora.” He expressed his belief, stating, “India’s 32 million-strong diaspora will use their skills and expertise to strengthen India’s potential to serve the global family.”

Shri Pradhan connected with the vibrant Indian diaspora in Kuwait and Mauritius. He valued their advice on how to teach youth about Indian culture, spirituality, and heritage. The minister discussed how NEP-2020 places a strong emphasis on education with an Indian identity and a modern outlook.

Global Mobility

Global mobility is an organisational function where employees can migrate from one place to another. It has focused on the tactical and practical aspects of relocation, technology, legal and tax compliance, support for dependents, and equipping employees to ensure continuity. In terms of workforce and talent development, it is more strategic. For global mobility programs, HR executives are in charge.
