A new Toolkit developed by the Australia India Institute and partner institutions will help Indian secondary schools integrate applied learning into mainstream education. Aligned with NEP 2020, it offers practical resources for curriculum design, pedagogy, assessment, and industry partnerships, thereby strengthening India-Australia education collaboration. Apprenticeship opportunities – Apply Now!

• Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has announced recruitment for 500 Foreman and Technician posts through an online process, offering opportunities in technical roles. The last date to apply is May 28, 2026. Click here to Apply!

STEM Training and Skill Development at PSSCIVE, Bhopal 

• PSSCIVE Bhopal inaugurated a 10-day summer camp promoting experiential and skill-based learning, featuring training in emerging technologies, agriculture, and entrepreneurship, aligned with NEP 2020 and NCF-SE 2023.
• NCERT is fast-tracking printing and distribution of new Grade 9 textbooks under NEP 2020, ensuring wider availability through digital platforms and retail channels while addressing initial supply gaps.
• The 67th DIKSHA coordination meeting, involving NCERT and PSSCIVE, reviewed progress across states, focusing on e-content quality, teacher training, textbook integration, and digital outreach.
• PSSCIVE Bhopal hosted Mr. Ashish Kulkarni, Chairman of the AVGC-XR Forum and founder of Punnaryug Artvision, for discussions on integrating AVGC concepts and Indian Knowledge Systems into vocational textbooks to enhance creative, industry-aligned learning in school education.

• NTPC signed an MoA with Ri-Bhoi district administration to establish STEM labs in 27 government schools, investing ₹1.48 crore to promote experiential learning and strengthen scientific education in Meghalaya.
• NITI Aayog proposed major school education reforms, recommending AI integration, stronger teacher development, and state-level task forces to improve learning outcomes, governance, and overall school quality nationwide. 
• The Health Ministry launched integrated training for primary healthcare teams, introducing a competency-based framework to strengthen frontline workers’ capacity in delivering comprehensive community healthcare services nationwide.
• Delhi Cabinet approved a significant pay hike for vocational and Samagra Shiksha teachers, aiming to strengthen skill-based education and support initiatives for integrating out-of-school children into mainstream learning.

Key developments in India’s skill ecosystem

• SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s CSR wing handed over key development assets to Gram Panchayat Ghughsidih, marking a step toward strengthening rural infrastructure and enhancing community welfare initiatives.
• DGT organised an industry consultation in Kanpur under PM-SETU to advance National Centres of Excellence, including aeronautics, bringing together government, industry leaders, and global institutions for collaboration.
• NTPC Kudgi launched Girl Empowerment Mission 2026, engaging 95 participants, to promote education, confidence, and leadership among young girls as part of its CSR-driven community development initiatives.
• India is drafting a roadmap to expand apprenticeship training in MSMEs, exploring reforms and a group training model where apprentices rotate across clustered units to boost participation and viability.
• SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant inaugurated an advanced electrical lab at its HR-L&D Centre to enhance workforce skills, modernise training infrastructure, and strengthen technical capabilities across operations.

State initiatives driving skilling and innovation

• The Rajasthan government signed an MoU with EFLU Hyderabad and NSDC to enhance foreign language training, aiming to skill 1,000 students annually and boost global employability opportunities.
• Maharashtra plans a policy aligned with NEP 2020 to formalise Recognition of Prior Learning, aiming to validate existing skills and safeguard students affected by unrecognised academic qualifications.
• Gujarat secured ₹3.53 lakh crore investment proposals through 2,792 MoUs at the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference, expected to generate 2.82 lakh jobs over the next three years.
• Uttar Pradesh plans 12 mega skill hubs and 63 district centres under Sardar Patel Employment Zones, investing ₹14,760 crore to train over 10 lakh youth annually using a hub-and-spoke model.
• The Gujarat government honoured 12 top-performing ITIs for excellence, highlighting their role in aligning youth skills with industry needs, with top institutes receiving financial support for academic and infrastructure development.
• Kangpokpi district, Manipur, launched skill training under the Art of Living, offering courses in tailoring and mobile repair to promote entrepreneurship and self-reliant livelihoods among rural youth.
• Telangana Chief Minister Shri Revanth Reddy consulted Reserve Bank of India former Governor Raghuram Rajan on integrating AI into education, while highlighting plans for a Skills University and training centres to boost employment and workforce development.
• Andaman and Nicobar BOCW Board will conduct short-term skill training with ITI support to help construction workers and dependents upgrade skills and improve employment opportunities.

Industry-led training and workforce readiness

• CREDAI Pune hosted its Construction Safety Awards, where Maharashtra Labour Minister Shri Akash Fundkar announced plans to invest ₹600 crore in modern skill centres for construction workers statewide.
• Ambuja Foundation partnered with Kanohar Electricals to establish a skill and entrepreneurship institute in Modinagar, aiming to train over 1,000 rural youth with industry-relevant, employment-focused skills.
• EasyShiksha is supporting professionals to upskill amid rising AI-driven job disruptions, offering flexible, industry-aligned programmes to enhance digital, analytical, and leadership capabilities for career growth and transitions.

CSR contributions to skills and livelihoods

• IndiGoReach partnered with BPA Ahmedabad to launch a skill development programme, aiming to train 300 youth, including PwDs and gender-diverse individuals, for inclusive employment in service industries.
• Accor India launched “Accelerate by Accor” to train over 500 underserved youth for hospitality careers, offering industry-aligned training, certification, and direct employment pathways to build an inclusive workforce pipeline.
• Vedanta Skill School, under BALCO’s CSR initiative, has trained over 15,000 rural youth in Chhattisgarh, enabling employment opportunities, with 83% placement achieved among 1,200 trainees in the past year.
