In a move towards bolstering its workforce and economic landscape, the Telangana government has announced a groundbreaking ₹2,000-crore plan aimed at enhancing skill development across the state. The initiative, as reported by The Hindu Business Line, underscores the government’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a conducive environment for entrepreneurship and investment to develop the state’s skilled workforce.

Amidst the dynamic landscape of Telangana’s economic evolution, skill development stands as a paramount agenda for the state government. With a resolute focus on enhancing the capabilities of its workforce, the Telangana government has embarked on a multifaceted journey aimed at fostering innovation and skill development. At the heart of this endeavor lies a concerted effort to bolster Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), aiming to enhance their potential and contribute to the state’s skill development goals.

Through strategic partnerships and initiatives, the government is poised to chart a transformative path towards a skilled and empowered workforce. In this article, we delve into the various initiatives undertaken by the Telangana government in its pursuit of boosting skill development.

64 ITIs to Enhance TS Skill Development

At the forefront of this initiative is the transformation of 64 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into Skill Development Centres. These centers will serve as hubs for honing the skills of the state’s workforce, equipping them with the capabilities to compete on a global scale. The move not only promises to elevate Telangana’s status but also positions it as a challenge among rapidly developing regions worldwide.

The announcement came during the CII Telangana and TDF-USA conference on education, skill development, and entrepreneurial opportunities held in Hyderabad. The event served as a platform to highlight the state’s proactive measures in advancing its skill ecosystem, with a particular emphasis on aligning skills that meet the demands of the industry.

One of the pivotal partnerships in this endeavor involves Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB), the Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK), and Ashan Consulting. Together, they aim to empower nearly 5,000 diploma students from government polytechnic colleges with employable skills through the ‘Campus to Corporate’ program.

Furthermore, Tata Technologies has pledged its support by offering job-oriented industrial skill development training for approximately one lakh students in Telangana. The company’s proposed investment, ranging between Rs 1,500 crore and Rs 2,000 crore, underscores its commitment to nurturing talent and fostering innovation in the region.

The focus isn’t solely on traditional skill development avenues. The government recognizes the importance of embracing modern technologies and has thus encouraged the introduction of contemporary courses in government ITI colleges. Tata Technologies will play a pivotal role in establishing 4.0 Skilling Centers, equipped with advanced machinery and software, to impart industry-relevant training.

Green Skills Academy Initiative

Initiatives like the establishment of a Green Skills Academy by partnering with the 1M1B Foundation underscore Telangana’s forward-looking approach. This pioneering initiative aims to cultivate green skills among college youth, aligning them with the demands of a sustainable economy.

Skills Training Centers in Telangana

The government’s commitment to skill development extends beyond urban centers to the grassroots level. Initiatives like the setting up of skill development training centers in coal belt areas by the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) exemplify this dedication to inclusive growth.

In line with its vision for comprehensive education reform, the government has also mandated the establishment of a government school in every Gram Panchayat. This aims to ensure equitable access to education, particularly in remote and underserved communities.
