Skill development news from the government

  • The second Education Working Group meeting on “Strengthening Research and Innovation through Collaboration” will be conducted from March 15 to 17, 2023 Read more…
  • PCI launched a job portal and signed an MoU with KDPMA, LSSSDC,  IPA and FOPE to reduce the gap of industry and academia, strengthen faculty and student training and promote entrepreneurship and infrastructure development.
  • The mega job fair ‘Kaushal Mahotsav’ was organised in Jharkhand, offering job opportunities to the tribal youth to become trained technicians for two and four-wheelers, more than 350 candidates selected in different job roles by 11 companies.
  • To strengthen relations between India and the US in the field of skill development, Union Minister Shri Dhamendra Pradhan, held discussions with US Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo.

Skill development news from the industry

  • Sathyabama Institute of Science & Technology  announced its academic partnership with ServiceNow to train students in digital skills and improve job prospects with paths to employment.
  • Hockey India (HI) has introduced its new Development Program, which is intended to identify young talent and strengthen the National Senior and Junior teams for men and women.
  • At its alumina refinery in Lanjigarh, Odisha, Vedanta Aluminium established “Project Panchhi,” with the aim of employing 1000 girls from rural aread across its diverse businesses in metals, mining, oil & gas located across India.
  • RINL provided skill development training to 540 tribal communities of Alluri Sitaramaraju district in order for them to create revenue on their own.
  • Maruti Suzuki India Limited signed an MoU with Centurion University of Technology & Management (CUTM), Odisha, and would also offer a three-year industry-oriented course – BBA in Retail Management – to the youth.
  • IBM launches world-class new age skill programs in the field of computer science engineering at the Lamrin Tech Skills University Punjab (LTSU).
  • NSDC to be partners with ISB to support its research and thought leadership in the broad area of “future of work” for the G20 education working group.

Skill development news from the ITIs

  • In partnership with Government ITI Rourkela, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India established the third skill enhancement centre in Odisha, will provide job-focused technical skill training for the youth.
  • To improve the employment outcomes of graduates from the vocational training system, the ITIs run by the Tamil Nadu government have been upgraded further through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

Skill development news from the academia

  • Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan virtually launched a four-year online  BS in Electronic Systems course at IIT Madras which is in line with all recommendations of NEP 2020.
  • In 57 teacher education institutions (TEIs) across the country, the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) was launched by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) for the academic year 2023–2024.
  • In order to provide students higher education in regional languages, IGNOU and the AICTE have signed an MoU to translate the university’s MBA courses into Indian languages.
  • For existing schools or those intending to affiliate, CBSE has released a set of guidelines for children with special needs (CwSN) provisions.
  • Deakin University will be the first university in India to establish an international branch campus in Gujarat.
  • With its e-learning platform, the Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies provides online programs in computer applications, commerce, business administration, and economics that have been authorised by the UGC.
  • In Jammu and Kashmir, vocational courses will soon begin in government schools for students from class 6th to 8th and 39 schools will receive amount of Rs.12,000.

Skill development news from the States/UTs

  • Jammu and Kashmir: Under PMKVY, the Jammu and Kashmir government is emphasising digital technologies and industry while decentralising and making skill development more demand-driven.
  • Maharashtra: To encourage children’s interest in skill education, skill development training will be introduced in 200 schools including municipal corporation and zilla parishad schools in Mumbai starting with the upcoming academic year.
  • Nagaland: PSSCIVE organised a training program on ‘pre-vocational education for Nagaland’s key functionaries and teachers,’ highlighted the NEP 2020 recommendations, the need of promoting pre-vocational education, 10 bagless days, and vocational education in schools, among other things.
  • Tamil Nadu: The Tamil Nadu Department of Higher Education has mandated public and private universities to start offering vocational courses to undergraduate students in the current academic semester.

  • COL-CEMCA Conducts Three-Day Workshop on Graduate Employability at YCMOU, Nashik, MaharashtraDr. Madhuri Dubey, Founder-Director, NSN, facilitated the workshop as a part of the Commonwealth of Learning - Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CoL-CEMCA) Project on enhancing graduate employability by integrating appropriate skills into the curriculum.The workshop was organized by CoL-CEMCA in collaboration with Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik, from 10th to 12th March, 2026, at the YCMOU campus in Nashik, Maharashtra under the guidance of Dr. B. Shadrach, Director, CEMCA and Dr Jane Agbu , Adviser Higher Education, Commonwealth of Learning.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane, honourable Vice-Chancellor, YCMOU, and coordinated by Dr. Amol Shirfule, Director i/c, Yash Center for Innovation, Incubation and Linkages and Dr. Nagarjun Wadekar, Director, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, YCMOU.As a part of the comprehensive Graduate Employability Project, the workshop brought together academic leaders representing different schools of specialization, course coordinators, and faculty members from YCMOU to strengthen curriculum design with a focus on employability skills and industry relevance.The workshop emphasised the transition from traditional content-driven teaching to outcome-based education using the Results-Based Management (RBM) Framework.
