Skill development news from the government

  • The Defence Ministry, MOE, MSDE, and the three Services (Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force) signed MOUs/MOAs with various stakeholders to facilitate degrees to agniveers.
  • At the Regional Institute of Education in Odisha, National Kala Utsav 2022–2023 was launched by Union Education Minister. On Vasant Panchami, the new NEP-2020 curriculum up to Class 2 will be introduced.
  • The Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela (PMNAM) was held on January 9, 2023, across 242 districts across 28 Indian states and union territories. Read more…

Skill development news from the industry

  • NDML announced a partnership with SBI Foundation to carry out Project SAMEIP, aims to empower PwDs by enabling livelihood through skill development.
  • JK Fenner (India) Ltd, in partnership with the Nicola Foundation, has created an employability skill centre in Delhi with the aim of assisting socially and economically disadvantaged youths.
  • To connect Indian youth with aspirational employment opportunities and engage them as active changemakers, Schoolnet India Ltd. has announced its partnership with YuWaah at UNICEF.
  • THSC and American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute signed a MOU, which will enable both organisations to share knowledge, set benchmarks, and give access to certifications recognised globally.
  • Through the Cyber Shikshaa and Ready4Cybersecurity programs, Microsoft and the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) have partnered to improve the availability of job-related skills.

Skill development news from the ITIs

  • Applications for the industrial training higher secondary level language (Hindi and English) exam 2023 will be accepted starting on January 5 by the Bihar School Examination Board. (Candidates may submit their applications by January 25, 2023, at secondary.biharboardonline.com, the official website.)

Skill development news from the academia

  • Chitkara University collaborates with ServiceNow to launch the Academic University Program, which will benefit 500 students per year and is part of the RiseUp global skilling initiative.
  • UGC Chairman recently disclosed the framework and functioning of India’s first National Digital University (NDU), which will offer only online courses to the students with the flexibility to pursue multiple courses from various institutes.
  • To develop learner-centred experiences that are profoundly personalised, relevant, and engaging, AICTE and Tech Avant-Garde (TAG) collaborated together to convert AICTE-approved colleges from Physical to Hybrid Mode.
  • As part of reforming the country’s higher education system, India has taken a step toward enabling prestigious foreign colleges like Yale, Oxford, and Stanford to open campuses and grant degrees.
  • All foreign universities that establish branches in India would only be permitted to provide offline classes, according to UGC Chief M. Jagadesh Kumar.
  • The Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI) scheme has received applications for an upgrade from 165k schools that are spread across 29 states and union territories.
  • The state-run universities in Maharashtra were evaluated by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari for their readiness to implement the NEP 2020 as of the upcoming academic year.
  • In class 9 and class 11, CBSE has lately introduced a new skill-based curriculum. As per NEP 2020’s guidelines, CBSE has consistently taken steps to implement “Skill Education” in its affiliated schools.

Skill development news from the States/UTs

  • Haryana: For employment purposes, the Haryana Government has declared that a B.Voc degree from any university shall be recognised as equivalent to any other three-year degree, where the degree shall be the three-year criteria.
  • Maharashtra: To empower women and children, the Consortium for Technical Education (CTE) and the Women and Child Development (WCD), the Government of Maharashtra, signed an MOU.
  • Tamil Nadu: Minister T M Anbarasan issued driving licences to 81 people trained in light motor vehicle driving duties, as well as certificates to 30 beauticians. Through TNSDC, over a thousand youths have benefited from skill development training.
