You can’t grow your business alone. Put people first.

The pandemic fundamentally has altered how professionals view their careers.

April 2021 saw a record 9.3 million job openings. Although companies wanted to hire, workers weren’t exactly ready to return to work. Almost a year later, many companies are still struggling to find workers and are seeking out new ways to recruit talent.

The way forward as we see it is for companies to get creative. Salary and designation are no longer the only motivating factors, workers expect flexibility such as perks of working from home, elastic work schedules, career growth, and job satisfaction, among others.

In this blog let’s look at how organisations can connect with their employees, make them feel heard and valued, and ultimately improve productivity and efficiency across a team.

You can’t grow your business alone. Put people first.

Focus on creating a culture of learning that helps employees thrive

It’s important to encourage employees to gain new skills and make learning hassle-free. So many companies focus on the initial attraction of employees but fail to give them the tools they need to succeed and be happy in the long term. This often leads to high turnover rates, which means a high cost of replacing that employee.

In any organisation, learning is the foundation of adaptability to change, resilience and productivity. By making learning easy and accessible, you are able to engage your staff, make them feel involved and keep them motivated.

Encourage critical thinking and risk-taking through experimentation

Companies with archaic systems and processes expecting professionals to be passive consumers of information and not to question, challenge or create; are running their company to the ground.

Developing innovative thinkers and positive risk-takers is the most effective way to prepare a new generation of workers to compete in a global economy – as it empowers workers and instils a sense of inclusion that in turn fosters greater loyalty.

Develop and define employee career paths and ladders

Creating a career path that your employees can follow to gain experience and move up or laterally in the company is a great way to keep your employees happy. If you can give them the chance to advance in their career, they are more likely to stay with your company.

Not only does creating a career ladder for your employees help you to retain them, but it also makes them feel more valued and inspired to do their best.

Update your employee performance review process

Having a good performance review process allows you to receive the proper feedback and support needed to succeed. It allows you to evaluate the performance and motivation of your employees and helps employees to uncover new avenues for professional development.

It is a great way for companies to set goals, track employee performance and measure their success. While the process is useful, it has its pitfalls and should be reviewed regularly to ensure managers are giving accurate, honest, and helpful feedback.

Issue blockchain-based digital certificates make employees feel valued

In addition to offering learning opportunities and establishing a proper employee performance review process, awarding your employees with digital certificates which are verifiable is an added benefit.

Digital certificates are identity-based, blockchain-based credentials issued to employees by companies that can be used for a range of work-related applications, including verifying identity and educational achievement, networking, and learning. It boosts employee retention and satisfaction.

A recent Deloitte report, which surveyed 905 C-suite executives across 11 countries and all major industry sectors, revealed that two-thirds of respondents (65%) said their company was considering offering digital certificates to employees as a means of boosting retention, with a further 23% saying they had already done so.

At a time when faced with the reality of our own mortality, it’s no longer enough to work for a paycheck and live for the weekend. As The Great Resignation continues, mentioned above are a few ways to motivate and retain your employees.
