Our skill development news bytes of the week will give you an insight into various happenings and updates in the industry, government, academia and other stakeholders in the skilling and TVET space. The snippets of information could help you get some leads for developing your business in this sector and will keep you informed. The news bytes are curated and adapted from various sources with the sole objective of keeping our readers updated about the evolving skills industry in India.

Skill development news from the government

RPL program being implemented across the country: RPL programme were implemented by NBCC throughout the country under Skill India mission of Government of India. Over 2,000 workers have been assessed and certified by the Construction Skill Development Council of India.

PMKVY trainees received skill certificates and trade licenses: Under PMKVY, Loktak Brigade of Red Shield Division has organised a felicitation and certificate distribution ceremony in partnership with Humanism Foundation. A total of 240 students received the skill certification as a proof of their course completion which made them eligible for suitable jobs and self employment.

NIESBUD collaborates with ICFRE to boost entrepreneurship skills and education: In a bid to enhance entrepreneurship skills and education in the country, a bilateral agreement has been signed between ICFRE and NIESBUD. Forestry research and related employment generation oriented skill development programmes are the main focus.

14.5 lakh gets employment opportunities under PMKVY: 14.5 lakh youth which is about 22.45 percent got employment opportunities out of 64.27 lakh people who were trained under PMKVY.

National Textiles Policy to be formulated: National Textiles Policy is going to be formulated by the government in consultation with the states. As 12 new markets have been identified in addition to the existing ones to enhance opportunities in the export segment of textiles industry.

Rs 5,100 crore allocated to skill youth under PMKVY: In order to train more number of youth under PMKVY Rs 5,100 crore has been allocated by the government. 69.03 lakh youth has already got trained under the scheme.

Skilling India summit and awards by ASSOCHAM: Strengthening skilling and employability – 27th November 2019

Common fund pool set up by a high-level panel for all skill related schemes: To address all the skill related schemes, a high-level panel is contemplating setting up a common fund pool. The government spends nearly Rs 15,000 crore every year on skilling through different schemes spread across 20 different ministries.

IITM’s Green Skill Development Program initiated its second batch: Under a new concept of practical and applied training courses in the field of atmosphere and environment, IITM Pune started its second batch of Emission Inventory and Pollution Monitoring course.

Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Loyola College organises apprenticeship drive for BBA Logistics: Andhra Loyola College organised apprenticeship drive for BBA Logistics students where all the 30 students got placed. The drive was conducted for the first year students.The selected students will be paid a stipend between Rs 8,000 and 12,000.

Himachal Pradesh

Himachal youths imparted industry skills: At a workshop organised by the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) it was told that in the next four years, over 50,000 youths of Himachal Pradesh will be imparted industry-oriented skills while as many as 12,000 students will be trained in employability skills. 

Jammu and Kashmir

Skill development programme to empower people of Jammu and Kashmir: To address the unemployment issues in the state and to empower people, free of cost skill development programmes have been provided to the unemployed locals in Jammu and Kashmir Under the government’s self-employment scheme scheme, loan at a lower interest rate and trainings will be provided.

Kerala

Registrations begin for India Skills Kerala: The registration for India Skills Kerala 2020 is now open. The competition is jointly organised by the Industrial training department and KASE. This is a platform for youth to compete in a wide range of vocational and non-vocational skills.

Madhya Pradesh

CRISP signs MoU with IASOWA on mobilising youth for trainings: In order to mobilise youth for employment oriented trainings, an MoU was signed between CRISP and IASOWA. CRISP is currently organising trainings for unemployed youth under skill development scheme of MMKSY, PMKVY, BPCL, NBCFDC and REC.

Meghalaya

Initiatives by Government of Meghalaya to address unemployment in the state: The Government of Meghalaya has started different initiatives to address the unemployment and skill gape issue among youth in the state. Under the initiative, several companies including OYO rooms, Interglobe technologies solutions and Bankbazaar will recruit youngsters for multiple job roles.

Skilling excellence being celebrated through RSDC Annual Awards: To felicitate the best performers in the rubber skilling ecosystem, RSDC organised its Annual Awards 2019. The RSDC awards had drawn wide interest from the Rubber value chain over the years. 

Workshops introduced with a focus on skill development and entrepreneurship: Film Bazar has introduced workshops for students with a special focus on skill development and entrepreneurship. The segment during Film Bazar is titled “Behind the Silver Screen, Empowering the Aspirants”

Indian Institute of Skills to be set up in Ahmedabad: MSDE is going to set up Indian Institute of Skills in Ahmedabad after Kanpur and Mumbai by the end of November. These institutes are to be set up on Not-for Profit Public Private Partnership (N-PPP) basis.

KU launched 6 new advanced skill courses: In a bid to make the students employable, Kurukshetra University (KU) launched six new advanced skill courses on Friday to enhance the skills of students.  The newly launched courses are chemical laboratory assistant, practical aspects of quantum chemical calculations, quality control and quality assurance, graphics design, online fact checking and digital media skills and retail skills.

Out of 15697 ITIs Uttar Pradesh has the most:Out of 15697 ITIs in India, Uttar Pradesh has the most number of ITIs. Besides, the government has envisaged setting up of Indian Institute of Skills with unique features that would make them different from the existing setup of ITIs, Polytechnics, and Advanced Training Institutes (ATIS).
