The ministers have stated that they would expedite various initiatives to skill youth in different trades and develop entrepreneur skills as it looks to create employment avenues for the youth. News from the states

Andhra Pradesh: Amara Raja Skill Development Centre demonstrates their commitment to skill development and conducts their 3rd Convocation at Tirupathi

Assam: The Assam government announced that all employment exchanges in the state will be converted into district skill development centres and will also act as facilitation centres for career counselling.

Bihar: State labour resources department to come up with a new Kaushal Yuva programme to improve communication skills in Hindi and English and computer literacy.

Gujarat: The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), welcomed the extension of Gujarat’s textile policy till 2018; this will help in skill development in textile sector.

Jharkhand: Mukhya Mantri Education Scheme, Smart Classes, Teachers samagam, bus services for schools and colleges have been stated as some of the achievements in the education sector in the 1000 days of the completion of Raghubar Das government.

Karnataka: The KASSIA Skill Development Centre – Master CAM and CNC training unit have been inaugurated in the city to promote skill development across sectors and increase productive employment in different segments of the economy.

Kerala: Indian Cardamom Research Institute, Myladumpara, conducted a Skill Development Programme on Nursery Management in spices in collaboration with the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture for farmers and agricultural youth.

Madhya Pradesh: Students of Madhya Pradesh will be given international level vocational training with the support of Germany as per a discussion between the state government and the Project Director of GIZ, Germany, India.

Maharashtra: 1. To encourage industry-ready simulation talent and resources, ANSYS and Cummins India Foundation are promoting women-led engineering research and simulation through the Centre of Research and Intellectual Entrepreneurship. 2. The Film and Television Institute of India has announced a three-week basic course in digital video editing that has received approval from National Skill Development Corporation. 3. Times Centre for Learning Limited, recently entered into an MOU with Maharashtra State Skill Development Society for an industry linked skill development and training program. 4. The Central Board of Secondary Education recently notified all CBSE affiliated schools that offer vocational courses to link their schools with vocational training centres or Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in their vicinity, in order to provide proper exposure and enhance aptitude in various skills of the students.

Odisha: 1. The Government of Odisha has accorded recognition to the Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM) as Skill University. 2. ICICI Academy for Skills is an institute set up by the ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth to provide vocational training to the youth from economically weaker sections to help them earn a sustainable livelihood. 3. Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) organized a talk show on the Importance of Skill India in strengthening Indian economy at the Exhibition-cum-Seminar on “New India-We Resolve to Make” at the Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar.

Punjab: The government’s employment mission, Ghar Rozgar, was kicked off with an employers’ meet in Mohali on September 5.

Tamil Nadu: 22 transgenders were trained in goat rearing to help them become economically self-reliant. The 80-hour certified training also focused on handling the social stigma they daily face and creating awareness about various government schemes for them.

Telangana: The State government has decided to design skill development programmes meant for the Scheduled Castes students in such a way that they foster entrepreneurship and make them industry ready.

News from the Industry

Nestle to set up a food safety institute to help develop standards in food safety and quality through skill development and skill enhancement of different food providers.

Youth4work signed an MoU with Management and Entrepreneurship and Professional Skills Council (MEPC), to create technically and professionally competent workforce.

India Tourism Development Corporation Ltd (ITDC) joined hands with Central Industrial Security Force to train the wards of CISF personnel under “Hunar se Rozgar Scheme”, a skill development programme sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, through the Ashok Institute of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

International news

Government of Israel has expressed interest to collaborate with India for infrastructre development and skill based training as per a discussion during prime minster’s Mr. Modi’s recent visit to Israel.
