CEMCA Skillfest 2023: A one-of-its-kind online skills competition by CEMCA and NSN

CEMCA Skillfest 2023Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) regional centre of the Commonwealth of Learning (CoL) and National Skills Network – NSN, India has launched a one-of-its-kind online skills competition, CEMCA Skillfest 2023. 

The competition invites participation from 8 Asian Commonwealth countries viz, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. Read more…

Skill development news from the government

  • The Furniture and Fitting Skill Council (FFSC), working under MSDE in collaboration with NDMC jurisdiction and NARSI Group, has trained and certified 910 carpenters through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program. Read more…
  • Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of MSDE and UNICEF India have partnered together to provide socio-economic opportunities to empower 300 million youths.
  • India to change skilling initiatives to cater to the changing world of work post-COVID-19 in skilling and apprenticeship scheme of MSDE along placement of candidates overseas.
  • Government has launched New India Literacy Program to cover a target of 5 crores non-literates in the age group of 15 years and above.

Skill development news from the industry

  • AAI collaborated with NSDC and has set up two Aviation Skill Development Centres to assess the participants undergoing training and award certifications to the successful candidates.
  • The Chetak Foundation signed an MoU with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya to encourage education and skill development among students and to improve the Logistics and Transportation courses’ curriculum.
  • LGT Venture Philanthropy collaborated with Quest Alliance to develop Indian Youth with 21st Century Skills, will also contribute significantly to facilitate seamless school-to-work transitions for the youth.
  • In order to implement career development programs and offer youths employment opportunities, Sai Life Sciences announced their partnership with NIIT Foundation.
  • 60 transgender students attended a new tailoring and beauty salon for the transgender community launched by AMRITA-SANKALP in New Delhi for the opportunity to enhance their skills.
  • Flipkart Foundation collaborated with TRRAIN India for Pankh (wings of destiny) initiative to empower and train Divyangjan for new career opportunities in retail, logistics, and IT, among other areas.
  • NSDC International and NIFCO Inc., Japan have signed an MoU to promote hiring of skilled professionals, conduct seminars in manufacturing sector and to encourage migrating of Indian HR from India to Japan.

Skill development news from the ITIs

  • Skill development training program was organized at the government ITI Ramban on March 28th, 2023, the program also placed emphasis on registering youth for various government schemes under Mission Youth.

NCVET job openings

  • NCVET is hiring 3 domain consultants. Interested and eligible candidates can submit their applications before 10th April 2023
  • NCVET is inviting applications for empanelment of legal counsels to represent NCVET and its officers/officials. Interested and eligible candidates may submit their applications before 2nd May 2023.

Skill development news from the academia

  • New NCERT textbooks revamped in accordance with the new NEP are expected to be introduced in schools beginning with the 2024-25 academic session.
  • IIT Kharagpur’s iVAR Lab has partnered with iXRLabs to promote research and innovation in the field of virtual reality for educational purposes and to see students’ VR experiences.
  • Both the Craft Development Institute (CDI) and the IICT have been recognized as J and K’s maiden centres of excellence in the handicrafts and carpet sector and intended to be one-stop resource centers for matters related to skilling and training.

Skill development news from the States/UTs

  • Jammu and Kashmir: The Jammu and Kashmir government announced farmers are being provided with skill development training in using modern technology to boost silk production.
  • Kerala: NABARD, in collaboration with G-TEC Education, provided free skill training in digital marketing and accounting to 200 youths from the districts of Palakkad, Malappuram, and Kannur.
  • Maharashtra: The governor of Maharashtra, Ramesh Bais, made a plea to corporates, higher education institutions, industries, and other agencies to encourage the state government in its efforts to help youths develop their skills.
