International Women’s Day, observed every year on the 8th of March, celebrates womanhood and its diverse achievements. At IL&FS Skills, many women, have undergone skilling to not only secure productive placement but also change their lives and the lives of their families and communities.
This year, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, 2019,IL&FS felicitated 70 female alumni of PMKK (IL&FS Institute of Skills, Okhla, Delhi) from different industries such as Hospitality, Retail, Telecom, Health & Apparel etc.They were felicitated by Ms Sarita Jain, Founder, Royal Group,Ms Ruchika Jain, Head-Business Development, Beebay Kids Apparel, Ms Sabitha Reddy, Advisor, SEED, Mr Gunish Jain, CEO, Blue Kaktus and Mr Ketul Acharya, COO, IL&FS Skills. These alumni have completed more than 100+ days in their respective jobs.
Skill building, as a means towards getting a job, is becoming popular as part of youth employability programs. There is a great need to properly skill women from all backgrounds to make them part of the labour force. IL&FS aims to deliver skills training programmes for the development of young women.As such, they have trained young students in such a way that they become aware of their strengths.
During the felicitation ceremony, the alumni shared their journeys filled with many hardships and successes. Skill India Mission has impacted their lives, both personally and professionally. Most importantly, it gave them a platform to identify themselves beyond the role of a daughter, a sister, a mother and a wife. They could envisage fulfilling their aspirations and dreams.
The guests spoke about the importance of how skilling is empowering women. As against the past, women are able to achieve greater heights in almost all industries with the right kind of training. It is a positive sign to note that many women are entering in diverse sectors that demand high skilled candidates. They also emphasised the change in the lives of women where they enhance their lifestyle through their skills and directly impact their families.
