Government of Gujarat organized a Pre-Vibrant Gujarat 2017 Summit ‘International Seminar on Employment Linked Skill Development’ at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar as a run-up to the 8th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017. Delegates to the summit cut across a varied group including Government Agencies, Industrial Players, Academia, Skill Training Providers, Learners and experts. The event was designed to provide a platform to all the stakeholders to participate in evolving a suitable mechanism for the execution of the strategies. The event was organized by the Directorate of Employment and Training, Government of Gujarat, and Gujarat Skill Development.

international-seminar-on-employment-linked-skill-development-1Mission Welcome address: Dr.Rajiv Kumar Gupta,IAS (Hon’ble Principal Secretary, Labour & Employment, GoG) Expressed alignment of his vision with the Honorable Prime minister`s thought of change in paradigm with ITIs becoming the unit for technological and economic growth of the country. He urged to various stakeholders of skill ecosystem to participate in strengthening of the system through quality and sustainability.

Chairperson`s address: Shri Vijaybhai Rupani, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat expressed the core relevance of Skill India movement in making Digital India, Make in India, start-up India programs a success. He expressed his vision to take Gujarat to new heights of growth through empowered and skilled labor.

gujarat-ministerGuest address: Guest of Honour Shri Dilip kumar Thakore, Hon’ble Minister (Labour & Employment), GoG : He elaborated on the skilling capacity of Gujarat and expressed his goal to bring about sustainable employment through effective utilization of the existing infrastructure.

Special address: Guest of Honour, Ms.Marina Walter (Deputy Country Director,UNDP-India)
She shared her experience of implementing DISHA project in India. UNDP has being active in support skill development initiatives across the country and she expressed keen interest in taking forward the cause of skill development in Gujarat. Special Address : Guest of Honour, Prof. Anil D.Sahasrabudhe (Chairman-AICTE). He highlighted how the continuous change in the technology has made relevant skill development challenging. He shared his views on improving the quality of training through use of latest pedagogy. He also highlighted the importance of life skills – communication, collaboration, creation and critical thinking in enhancing the chance of better employability.

As a proud organizer of the summit, he expressed his heartfelt thanks for supporting the cause of skill development in Gujarat. He urged to all the stakeholders to participate and collaborate to strengthen the skill development ecosystem in Gujarat.

Panel Discussion 1: Building Right skills for Sustainable Development Highly interactive Panel Discussion being moderated by Mr.R C M Reddy (MD & CEO- IL & FS Education)

Dr. Jean-Marc Castejon (Senior Specialist-Qualification Frameworks Indian-EU Skill Project) Enlightening the audience on the relevance of National Skill qualification framework and its impact on Global Mobility of the skilled workforce.

Mr. Samir Shah (Chairman-CII Gujarat State Panel on Skill Development) shared his on-field experience of involvement industry in skill training for improvement of quality and developing a more employable workforce. He also discussed the emerging avenues in the Logistics sector.

Lt. Gen. S P Kochher (CEO- Telecom Sector Skill Council) strongly suggested alignment of vocational training across the complete education value chain right from school to college level to balance between development of knowledge and skills .He also stressed on participation of industry in developing training infrastructure and involving industry people as trainers in vocational education.

Col I S Gahlaut (CEO- Capital Goods SSC) shared insights on advanced Engineering & Manufacturing skills. He highlighted the importance of the policies and other legislations which will help improve the retention of blue-collared workers and improve their standard of living as well through living wages.

Dr. Shrikant Bansal (COO- CRISP: Centre for Research and Industrial Staff Performance, Bhopal) shared the perspective on Skill Development Delivery. He suggested some best practices used by CRISP for effective and sustainable growth. Revenue generation models and better utilization of existing infrastructure were suggested.
