Nettur Technical Training Foundation (To know more about the training centres in Kerala, Team NSN connected with Mr. K V Nair, Zonal Head, NTTF who is in charge of both Tellicherry and Malappuram training centres in Kerala.
In this Skill Talk, Mr. K V Nair shares his experience and journey in NTTF and tells us about the initiatives and achievements of his zone. Read on to know more…
Q. Please tell us more about your zone and the two centres that you are currently heading?
A: NTTF Tellicherry and NTTF Malappuram are the two centres that are under my zone. Tellicherry centre is the very first and a heritage centre established by Swiss Govt in 1959. It has been imparting purposeful technical training for the last six decades contributing to the industry growth by producing an industry-ready workforce. The Malappuram centre was established in 2013 and has contributed to quality technical training since then.Â
The courses that are being offered in Tellicherry are:Â
- Diploma in Tool Engineering and Digital Manufacturing
- Diploma in Computer Engineering and IT InfrastructureÂ
- Diploma in Mechatronics Engineering and Smart Factory
The courses that are being offered in Malappuram are:
- Diploma in Tool Engineering and Digital Manufacturing
- Diploma in Electronics and Embedded System
- Diploma in Mechatronics Engineering and Smart Factory
Both the centres are well equipped with all the necessary infrastructure and training equipment. All our faculty members are well-experienced and their method of teaching is outstanding. At these centres, we ensure quality skill development and technical education of our students to make them industry ready. The uniqueness of NTTF is in the holistic training methodologies the institution has adopted over six decades to impart the required skills to the youth.
Q. Please tell us about your journey in NTTF?
A: After serving in Indian Army for 28 years, I joined NTTF in 1994 as the Principal of Bangalore Training Centre (BTC). After nine years, I moved to Dharwad training centre. I worked there for three years before moving to Jamshedpur training centre where I worked for 10 years before taking the charge of Tellicherry training centre. Since 1994, I have been associated with NTTF. I am privileged to be a part of the glorious journey of NTTF.
Q. How is the students’ general response to various courses that are being offered right now? Also, tell us more about the courses that are being offered?
A: The response of the students to join the centres is very good. The youth in Kerala aspire to be a part of these centres because of our industry- aligned and quality technical training. The skills that they get while being a part of NTTF makes them ready for the industry and their first job. They don’t have to struggle much to get placed once they complete their training in NTTF.
In our centres, we offer both long-term diploma courses as well as short-term vocational certification courses. All our course syllabus is up-to-date and industry-aligned. We update our syllabus regularly to meet the industry expectations. We also offer government sponsored courses such as DDU-GKY, National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) related courses along with courses from ASAP especially for the poor segment of people which includes tribal youth. These short-term courses provide the students with right employment after the completion of the course. NTTF has a strong association with Kerala Govt Skill development authorities which enabled us to roll out several vocational training programs.
Q. How about the placement in NTTF? How has NTTF managed 100 % placement even during the pandemic?
A: Like any other year, we had a very good placement this year as well, despite the pandemic. Placement is one of NTTF’s strong points all through the sixty-one years of journey. Our students never face any problem in employment after completing a course in NTTF. At all our centres every year during January-April months we arrange the campus selections from the reputed industries and corporate houses. Today, industries look for people who are really employable, possessing the right skill sets. The training that we provide at NTTF makes our students industry-ready. Our courses are industry-aligned and we train our students as per the industry demand which is the primary reason behind our great placement record.Â
Q. How do you ensure that the faculty is upskilled and continuously trained to meet the dynamic nature of industry-integrated curriculum?
A: We have a very structured training program for the development of our faculty. There are in-house faculty development programs which we conduct ourselves. Main focus on Training of Trainers is the assessment of current level competencies and then upgrading to the required normas as per their functional skill needs. There are other programs that are organized by our corporate office. We select the faculty members for specific training based on their knowledge in subjects and send them for suitable training. These training programs are sometimes conducted by corporate offices, or by us. Faculty teams are also sent for the industry visits to get updated about the current technology trends. This is how NTTF provides training to develop the expertise of the trainers as per industry needs so that the knowledge of our staff is always updated.
Q. Any message you wish to share with young students regarding the importance of skill-based technical training?
A: Today, skill-based education is a priority in every sector. Industries are looking for people who have the right skills. Even the government is putting a lot of emphasis on the skill development of the students. So, building the right skills has become crucial like never before. Skills and knowledge are the driving force for the industrial growth of our country and also for the well-being of the society.Â
With an aim to contribute to the vision of making India the next skill capital of the world, we ensure the right skill development of our students through quality training. Right skills are crucial for anyone who wants to get employed. So, it is important for our youngsters to invest their time in acquiring hands-on skills, upskilling and reskilling, and that should be a continuous activity to be in par with this changing world.
