• Shri Dharmendra Pradhan awards 65 district and block education officers the National Award for Innovations and Good Practices in Educational Administration (2020-21 & 2021-22).
• AICTE has released the Approval Process Handbook 2024-2027, emphasizing quality education, streamlined procedures, and transparency for institutions seeking approval for technical and management programs.

Skill development news from the industry

• TeamLease’s 2023 Apprenticeship Outlook report reveals 75% surge in opportunities, 9% growth Jan-Mar 2023, and a record-high Net Apprenticeship Outlook with a 75% increase in employer intent for Oct-Mar 2023-24.
• IT/ITES companies witness a 250% annual surge in apprentice headcount, strategically utilizing apprenticeships to reduce workforce costs while fostering talent and retention.
• The IT and BFSI sectors are anticipated to generate around 5 million jobs through apprentice skilling by 2025, as per the ‘Apprentice Skill Trends’ report by Quess Corp.
• NSDC International (NSDCI), Baton Transport, and Anywhere Jobs have partnered to address the shortage of skilled trailer drivers in Europe, mobilizing Indian drivers and empowering women in the trucking industry.
• IREL (India) Limited, a Department of Atomic Energy initiative, has completed a skill development course for plastic technology in the petrochemical and polymer industry for 20 youths from nearby villages at CIPET, Jaipur.
• NSDC has partnered with Blinkit, Apna, and Quess Corp to provide skilled workers. Apna and Quess Corp integrate their platforms with Skill India Digital, while Blinkit focuses on quick-commerce industry skills.
• Max Healthcare has launched skill training with Tihar Jail benefiting 1200 inmates. The program supports rehabilitation through education and vocational training, reducing recidivism and promoting societal re-entry.

• The UGC has approved draft guidelines for “Introduction of Short-Term Skill Development Courses in Higher Educational Institutes,” allowing credit-based courses lasting three to six months.
• The government of Odisha has approved to establish an ITI at Lakhanpur in Jharsuguda district and sanctioned Rs. 24 crores for the institution.

• Andhra Pradesh: Under the Andhra Pradesh Government, APSSDC is set to revamp and enhance skill development and training institutions, playing a crucial role in creating a high-quality skilled workforce as part of the state’s comprehensive plan.
• Odisha: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India has launched a Digital Skilling Center in Ramanagar and also laid the foundation for an ITI in Bijaynagar, aiming to boost youth employment in line with Atmanirbhar Bharat.
